North America’s Premier Mountain Lifestyle Festival Returns for 5th Successive Winter

The nine-day festival in North Lake Tahoe, California is a celebration of human-powered mountain sports, events, clinics, equipment demonstrations, critically-acclaimed film and more.
Tahoe City, Calif. – Alpenglow Sports is thrilled to announce the fifth winter Alpenglow Mountain Festival, presented by Outdoor Research and DPS Skis. The nine-day festival in North Lake Tahoe, California is a celebration of human-powered mountain sports, events, clinics, equipment demonstrations, critically-acclaimed film and more. The 5th iteration of the Alpenglow Mountain Festival showcases over 75 individual events from February 17-25, 2018 and is almost entirely free.
Geared toward beginner and intermediate winter recreation enthusiasts, the Alpenglow Mountain Festival showcases some of the best activities Lake Tahoe has to offer – backcountry skiing and splitboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, natural history, yoga, live music, educational workshops, social gatherings and more.
“The Mountain Festival was born out of the desire to share the mountain pursuits which drew us to Tahoe with others,” according to Brendan Madigan, founder of the Mountain Festival. “We’ve designed the Mountain Festival as a destination event for mountain enthusiasts of all ability levels who are interested in trying a multitude of human- powered sports in a safe and welcoming environment. “
Madigan added, “We’ve assembled a great calendar of 75+ individual events led by some of the best athletes and community leaders in the country. Building off the unparalleled of snow conditions of the 2017 edition, we’ve incorporated more guided tours as well new and exciting events that are designed to round out the experience for all those involved. These include nightly social events, more instructional seminars and more women’s-specific events.”
In addition to local guiding companies Alpenglow Expeditions, Backcountry Babes, Rich Meyer Alpine Guide, and North American Ski Training Center a litany of professional athletes will attend the event in order to lead tours and give presentations. These included Adrian Ballinger, Kim Havell, Noah Howell, Barry Blanchard, Zach Griffin and more.

- Kick-off party/screening of Telluride’s Mountainfilm at Squaw Valley’s Olympic
- Live music at Moe’s Original BBQ with the popular bluegrass band Poor Man’s Whiskey
Registration for the event opens on Friday, January 12th at 10 am PST. The majority of events are free, so space is limited and participants are encouraged to register online to secure spots. Registration for most events requires a deposit that is refunded upon participation. Please note that cancellations are not allowed after February 10th
