Premier Sponsor to partner with West End House to teach Allston-Brighton youths how to row and present City of Cambridge Trophy
Cambridge, MA – The Head Of The Charles Regatta today announced that it has entered into a partnership with Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE: ARE), which will serve as a Premier Sponsor of the 54th Regatta in October 2018.
Alexandria, the country’s largest owner, operator, and developer of collaborative life science and technology campuses in key urban innovation cluster locations, including a leading presence in Cambridge with approximately 5 million square feet of high-quality office/laboratory space in the heart of Kendall Square, will be the Official Life Science Real Estate Partner of the iconic race weekend — scheduled for October 20 and 21.
“The Head Of The Charles is delighted to welcome Alexandria to the support team for this year’s Regatta,” said Frederick Schoch, Executive Director of the Head Of The Charles. “Dedicated sponsors are what allow us to continue this important and unique Boston tradition. Alexandria’s partnership demonstrates their commitment to the event, the region, and the rowing community at large, and we are thankful for their vision and generous commitment.”
The Head Of The Charles is one of the world’s most widely renowned rowing competitions. The 54th Regatta weekend offers a variety of events for local and international rowers alike. The Regatta engages rowers with a wide range of experience, including juniors, Olympians, and Para, and Masters Athletes. The Regatta has become one of the most highly recognized signature events of New England, attracting tens of thousands of spectators and over 800 universities, colleges, schools, and clubs.
“Alexandria is pleased to support the 54th Head Of The Charles Regatta,” said Tom Andrews, Co-President and Greater Boston Regional Market Director of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. “The Head Of The Charles is a unique New England tradition, which embodies the passion, dedication, teamwork, inclusion, and drive that we value at Alexandria. The Regatta aligns with our commitment to support our local communities and the next generation of leaders, as well as to promote health and wellness.”
Through its sponsorship, Alexandria is proud to support a “learn to row” for children at the West End House on October 18, the Thursday before the Regatta. West End House, located in Brighton, MA, is an innovative and vibrant youth development agency that provides outcomes-driven programs to more than 1,700 youth residing in the most underserved communities in the city of Boston. With this partnership, Alexandria and HOCR will be collaborating with Community Rowing to use their equipment, while coaching will come from a variety of international Olympians who will be racing during the Head Of The Charles. The program will provide Allston-Brighton kids with an opportunity to row on the Charles themselves and experience firsthand the magic of being on the water.
Further, Alexandria will present the City of Cambridge Trophy for Women’s Lightweight Fours, alongside City of Cambridge officials at the Awards Stage on the final day of the Regatta.
Alexandria’s sponsorship of the Regatta will help preserve the event’s mission to provide a world-class competition to rowers of all abilities. The 54th Regatta, scheduled this year for October 20 and 21, is expected to attract almost 11,000 competitors and over 400,000 spectators. The event is free and is accessible to view from any bridge or along the shoreline of the three-mile course.
