Premium Cargo Boxes Arrive Just in Time for Those Seeking Adventure this Winter
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., November 10th, 2020 – For over 40 years Yakima has been the leader in automobile cargo innovation, offering exterior packing solutions that make room inside vehicles for wild souls seeking adventure. At the start of this year, at the Outdoor + Snow Show in Denver, Colorado, Yakima unveiled their newest lineup of best-in-class cargo boxes—CBX—a premium collection modeled and named after current high-end automobile trends and offering both a rugged and modern styling coupled with superior gear-hauling capabilities. Joined by the GrandTour Lo, a premium and sleek low-profile cargo box, these rooftop storage solutions—capable of packing away everything from clothing to camping gear to skis—arrive at the perfect time for road warriors looking to put civilization in the rearview.
CBX Cargo Box Collection
The CBX line includes three different boxes: both 16- and 18-cubic-foot versions and a second 16-cubic-foot model featuring an integrated solar panel for charging battery-operated devices when off-grid. Each box installs to just about any roof rack with a removable torque tool that ensures a secure fit and leaves flat space for more gear. An all-new microtexture exterior sets this collection apart from other rooftop storage offerings, while the lid has an integrated handle that disengages when the box is locked for an added layer of security. With both 16- and 18-cubic-foot models available, both of which offer excellent hatch clearance, there’s a model size for nearly every vehicle on the road.
Winner of Outside Magazine “Gear of Show” and Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards “Product of the Year” honors, the new CBX SOLAR cargo box is a step forward in the narrative of green energy and environmental sustainability. To design the CBX SOLAR— the first mass-produced, premium-level cargo box with an integrated solar panel—Yakima partnered with Sunflare, a company based in La Verne, Calif. Sunflare is the first company to successfully mass-produce light, thin, flexible, and durable CIGS (copper indium gallium selenide) solar panels, which are 75 percent lighter and 95 percent thinner than standard c-Si (crystalline-silicon) panels. Capable of withstanding high impact, these CIGS panels are impervious to heat, wind, and cold—and will not crack.
The integrated 36-watt panel on the CBX SOLAR cargo box produces a 5-volt (3-amp max.) output through two USB ports, making it a completely green way to power any campsite or trailhead activity. The power of the sun affords adventurers the ability to charge portable batteries and devices without having to even start the vehicle, leaving plenty of power in the battery for when its time shift into drive and explore the next horizon.
Cargo boxes in the CBX collection will have MSRPs of $849, $949, and $1,299 for the 16, 18 and SOLAR models, respectively. The line will be available at retail locations, digital retailers, and at Yakima.com.
GrandTour Lo
For those who like to travel in style, the GrandTour Lo features a premium, sleek look without compromising functionality or capacity. It has a height of just 11.5 inches, offers 15 cubic feet of interior space, and accommodates skis up to size 215 cm. Its low-profile stature is great for larger SUVs heading to the mountains or pulling into parking garages. It’s packed with technical upgrades and an automotive sheen that looks great on high-end vehicles.
GrandTour Lo will join the existing 16- and 18-cubic-foot GrandTour models that began selling earlier this year.
GrandTour Lo will have an MSRP of $779 and will be available at retail locations, digital retailers, and at Yakima.com.
