Colorado’s Newest Ski Area Releases Passes, Lessons, and Rentals Bookings
(KREMMLING, CO) — Starting today, skiers and snowboarders are able to reserve day passes, backcountry lessons, and backcountry rental equipment at Colorado’s newest ski area, Bluebird Backcountry.
The no-chairlifts, ski-patrolled area announced plans in September for its first full season at Bear Mountain, on the Continental Divide between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs. As interest in backcountry skiing accelerates, the “in-bounds backcountry” ski area is poised to welcome and educate thousands of skiers and riders of all backcountry experience levels.
Upon announcing its upcoming season, Bluebird Backcountry’s AIARE avalanche courses and 500 season passes sold out. The highly anticipated reservation system launched today creates a new opportunity for guests to get a taste of the backcountry and experience an entirely new kind of winter adventure.
The reservation system allows skiers and riders to lock in slots to visit the COVID-aware ski area, which limits visitation to 200 per day to ensure a socially distanced and backcountry-lite experience. Guests will be able to sign online waivers, access digital trail maps, and get a reusable ski pass to minimize personal contact on the mountain.
Bluebird Backcountry’s first full ski season arrives just as interest in backcountry participation reaches record highs. As outdoor enthusiasts prepare to head off-piste this winter, many are making Bluebird their first stop. More than 150 guests have purchased Bluebird+ memberships, which include access to Bluebird’s full suite of backcountry lessons, clinics, and ski-with-a-mentor opportunities.
Reliant on mother nature for its snowmaking, Bluebird Backcountry will open as soon as possible with closing day expected for March 28, 2021. Operations will run five days a week, Thursdays through Mondays, and lessons, rentals, and other amenities will be available every open day. Let it snow!

About Bluebird Backcountry
Bluebird Backcountry is a human-powered backcountry ski area located outside of Kremmling, Colorado. It’s operated by dedicated backcountry skiers and snowboarders with the aim to reduce barriers to entry, improve gaps in current education formats, and create a soulful gathering place for the backcountry skiing community.
Bluebird Backcountry has been working on the backcountry-lite ski area concept since 2017. After raising more than $100,000 through Kickstarter—430% of its goal—in January 2020, Bluebird’s in-bounds backcountry concept became a reality, opening for a 14-day test season in February and March 2020. By expanding its terrain, education, and service offerings this year, Bluebird Backcountry aims to build on its leadership role in the backcountry space.
