Exciting racing at the 2018 Nationals in California

CASTAIC LAKE, CA: With sunshine and cool temperatures, elite obstacle course race (OCR) competitors from across the United States ran through Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, CA on Sunday, crowning the USAOCR National Champions and selections for Team USA.

Evelyne Ruiz (Ontario, CA) won the elite women’s division in a time of 42 minutes and 11 seconds, followed by Faye Morgan (Temecula, CA) in 42:54 and Timmie Brann (Long Beach, CA) in 44:18.

The men’s elite race was decided at the penultimate obstacle, where leader Victor Quezada (Farney, TX) was passed at the Laser Shooting by Jon Clark (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) who won in 37:21. Quezada held on to second place (37:53) and Jack Bauer (Colorado Springs, CO) came in third at 38:40.

Female and male age group champions were crowned across five-year age groups from under 20 (U20) through 60+. The top 5 women and top 5 men in each category qualify for Team USA to represent the United States at International championships and Multisport Games

USAOCR does not own obstacles or have contracts with venues and relies on event brands to host National Championships. The 2018 event was hosted by Spartan Race at the Los Angeles Sprint weekend, with over 8,500 athletes competing on the hilly and scenic trails of the Sierra Pelona Mountains.
