The first film in the series–Finding Joy in Atlanta–shares the story of friends coming back together
OLD FORT, North Carolina (June 17, 2021)— Kitsbow is thrilled to debut the first film in its 2021 36 Hours in Kitsbow series. 36 Hours in Kitsbow is a unique film series in which Kitsbow provides grants of money and gear to enable aspiring filmmakers to tell their unique and original stories of cycling adventure, especially stories that reunite us with our community, propel us into the unknown and begin a journey from our doorstep.
“I believe many of us are finding celebration in our first ride with friends after so many months.” said David Billstrom, CEO of Kitsbow Cycling Apparel. “This crew captures perfectly the joy of riding and camping together, in an adventure contained in just 36 hours and launched right from their home.”
Leading off the 2021 series, “Finding Joy in Atlanta” celebrates a reunion of friends from the Atlanta-metro area who connected by way of the Radical Adventure Riders, Atlanta Chapter after a long and challenging year of isolation. Created by Ashley Finch, this short film follows Sarah Cruz, Hannah Griggs, Sarah Lashinsky, Olivia Williams, Devin Cowens, Corinna Wollmann and Finch who are enthusiastic cyclists and diverse in gender, race and their cycling backgrounds. The film captures their bikepacking journey from their Atlanta home base as they navigate the MARTA transit system and pedal backroads to Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. The group had done this bikepacking trip a year prior, but little did they know at that time their 2020 grand plans for bikepacking weekends and overnighters would abruptly come to a halt.
“To say the last year was difficult would be selling it short. We all had to give up things that we love.” says Ashley Finch, film creator. “We had to come face to face with isolation. Isolation from our communities, the people we feel seen by and the spaces where we thrive.”
Finding Joy in Atlanta is now viewable on the Kitsbow website.
Kitsbow will roll out additional short films throughout 2021 meant to inspire you to head out on your own 36 hours adventure, from your own front door. Similarly inspired filmmakers are encouraged to apply to the next series of grants when announced at Kitsbow.com.
