MSR® Global Health Technologies Create Lasting Change for Thousands in the Developing World
March 27, 2019
Last year alone, tens of thousands of people worldwide received access to safe drinking water thanks to MSR Global Health water treatment technologies
Seattle, Wash. (March 27, 2019) – Mountain Safety Research® (MSR®), the leader in effective water treatment and purification, releases its 2018 global health impact summary, highlighting its improvements to safe drinking water access in developing communities around the world. In 2018, MSR Global Health, its technologies, and its partners empowered tens of thousands of people to take control of their own safe water supply, through dozens of new projects.
The MSR Community Chlorine Maker was distributed to over a dozen countries across Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America in 2018. MSR Global Health’s flagship product, the Community Chlorine Maker, enables communities to create chlorine for safe water treatment. Developed in partnership with PATH, just one Community Chlorine Maker creates enough chlorine on the spot in 5 minutes to treat up to 200 liters of water. The device requires only water, salt, and any power source. In total, MSR estimates that it has helped more than half a million people access safe drinking water since 2015.
New MSR nonprofit fund accelerates water projects
Recognizing the urgent need to improve safe water access, MSR accelerated its water projects through the launch of the MSR Impact Project, a nonprofit fund that allows the public to participate in the company’s projects worldwide. The MSR Impact Project invites the public to get involved in three ways:
- Make a donation to support safe water projects around the globe.
- Host your own fundraiser for safe water and hygiene projects.
- Travel with MSR’s Adventures for Impact trips, which combine a spectacular remote adventure with the opportunity to participate in safe water projects in the local communities.
MSR partnered with humanitarian organizations and NGOs to expand global reach
Like the company’s renowned outdoor equipment, MSR’s global health technologies, safe water projects, and partnerships are built to last. Working directly with community members, the company’s partners provide MSR technologies as well as the education and follow-up necessary for sustainable change. This comprehensive approach effectively empowers communities with the independence to control their futures and their health.
“With a world-class research and development team, microbiology laboratory, and 50 years of manufacturing expertise, MSR has long been a trusted partner of well-respected humanitarian organizations and NGOs,” says Patrick Diller, MSR Global Health Program Manager. “Our partnership with these organizations, both in the laboratory and in the field, ensures the long-term success of our safe water projects worldwide.”
In addition to its new projects, MSR was recognized for its positive global impact by Seattle Business Magazine’s Manufacturing Company of the Year Award in the Innovation Category. The award specifically honored the MSR Community Chlorine Maker for expanding access to safe drinking water around the world. MSR was nominated among dozens of other manufacturers from all over Washington and selected by judges as a finalist for developing and manufacturing low-cost, field-proven products that improve access to basic human needs in low-resource communities in the developing world.
