Rocky Talkie Opens Entries to Annual Search and Rescue Awards

Search and rescue teams from across the US and Canada are encouraged to apply for 2024 SAR Awards funding opportunities.

DENVER, CO (October 2023)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Rocky Talkie, a leading provider of backcountry communication devices, in partnership with the American Alpine Club, is pleased to announce open entry to the annual Search & Rescue (SAR) Awards for 2024. Rocky Talkie will distribute a total of $75,000 in funding to SAR teams in its awards cycle.

Search & Rescue operations are critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of hikers, climbers, skiers and adventurers who explore the outdoors. Now in its third year, Rocky Talkie’s Search and Rescue Awards serve as a platform to recognize the heroic efforts of these mostly volunteer groups. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the community through our annual Search & Rescue awards program,” said Bryce Jones, Co-Founder and CEO of Rocky Talkie. “Volunteer SAR members are the unsung heroes of our mountain communities and we strongly believe in the importance of supporting their work.” Jones continued.

SAR teams from the United States and Canada, regardless of size, are encouraged to apply for one or both of the funding opportunities in the 2024 SAR Awards. Selected SAR teams will receive a portion of $75,000 in award money that has been generated through sales of Rocky Talkie’s backcountry radios. Five teams will receive $10,000 in Need Based Grants, while one team will be chosen to receive the $25,000 award for Featured Rescue of the Year.

SAR teams applying for a Need Based Grant are asked to submit a brief description of a specific funding need their team has in 2024. To apply for the Featured Rescue of the Year award, teams are asked to submit a summary of a rescue from 2023 that exemplifies teamwork, demonstration of technical skills, and problem solving. The winning team will have their inspiring rescue documented via a professionally produced video. View last year’s winning video here.
