Noah Dines hits 2.5 million vertical feet skied in a year, breaking former record
September 3, 2024
/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – It’s the first week of September and Fischer athlete Noah Dines has officially cracked the record for self-powered vertical feet skied in a calendar year. Dines crested over Aaron Rice’s 2016 mark of 2.5 million feet on Monday, September 1st at El Colorado, the resort in the mountains outside of Santiago, Chile.
Dines started his quest at home in Stowe, Vermont, and his mission for 2024 has since taken him to Europe, the Pacific Northwest and South America, where he has continued his search for the year-round snow that has made his achievement possible.
“I’m excited and almost feeling overwhelmed,” said Dines about surpassing Rice’s record. “I’ve been working for eight full months to get to this moment. In some ways, it’s just a milestone, but it’s also the only milestone that matters because it’s the most critical one.”
About the skis and boots that have carried him to this record, Dines notes, “I’ve been in one pair of Fischer Travers CS boots for this entire journey.”. He has also been using different pairs of Fischer Transalp RC skis on rotation throughout the year, and a single pair of “silly, long carbon One Way TR Carbon race poles that are apparently unbreakable.”
Dines, who intends to continue to ski for the rest of 2024, is still excited to ski and is looking forward to seeing just how far he can get in the remainder of the year. When he began his project in January, he had his sights set on hitting 3 million feet by the end of the year. So far, he’s averaged 10,000 feet per day and is ahead of schedule.
“Everyone at Fischer is amazed by what Noah has accomplished this year,” says Fischer Marketing Manager Jonathan Jay. “Breaking Aaron Rice’s record of 2.5 million is an incredible feat, and we are proud that Fischer and One Way gear has been able to keep up with him throughout 2024. We can’t wait to celebrate with him with every step for the rest of the year as he strives for his awesome goal of 3 million vertical feet of human-powered skiing.”
