Charles Costa, UK Musician Formerly Known as King Charles, Completes 90 Marathons in 90 Days Challenge and Releases First Single Off New Album

(October 16, 2024) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ — Today, Charles Costa, a UK musician formerly known as King Charles, is completing 90 marathons in 90 days along the PCT, and releasing his first single titled “Nothing at the Most” off his new self-titled album. Ten years ago, a skiing accident left Costa with a brain trauma that paused his music career and continues to shape his mental health journey. Costa is relaunching his career under his given name, Charles Costa, and will be releasing other new singles leading up to the new album release on January 24, 2025.

Various factors have influenced this rebirth, from sharing his artist moniker with the actual monarch, to this already deeply personal artist becoming increasingly eager to explore the vulnerabilities of the man behind the music. That introspective desire is powered by his inspirational, ongoing charity endeavor, which today reaches a new peak as he completes the last of his 90 Marathons in 90 Days challenge – a grueling 2,650 mile trek along the Pacific Crest Trail. Costa has been running to support the invaluable work carried out by The Jed Foundation, a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults, and James’ Place, a UK based charity dedicated to suicide prevention for men.

“Mental health is an ongoing battle,” said Costa. “The message that I’m trying to get out with this run is that I really believe running is a very healthful, curing activity, that can completely untangle your way of thinking. It’s getting your heart pumping, it’s getting your lungs heaving, and it’s really getting back to your human self. It’s all about connecting your spirit to the world, and to music and to melody. So I’m banging the drum about running and singing being the cures that bring immediate relief to a lot of brain difficulties.”

The song “Nothing at the Most” is part of a collection of songs filled with the sounds and lyrics to represent the journey between longing and lament. Costa made this record with Jesse Quin at Old Jet Studios combining songs with productions to create a new identity for his debut album as Charles Costa.

About Charles Costa:

The artist formerly known as King Charles, maker of three beloved albums (LoveBlood, 2012; the Marcus Mumford-produced Gamble for a Rose, 2016; Out of My Mind, 2020), has been plotting his abdication for the best part of two years, ever since the pretender to the throne became, well, nothing of the sort. In 2010, he had a catastrophic skiing accident in Austria. The result was brain trauma that put him in a very, very delicate position psychologically for a number of years.
