New Brand Designs Intuitive, Purpose-Driven Skis for Passionate Skiers
Boulder, CO (October 17, 2024) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Ellis Skis, a new ski brand with Rocky Mountain roots and a mission of creating the most intuitive and purpose-driven skis, announced today that its full line of products are now available to customers ahead of the upcoming winter season.
Officially launched this year with offices in Utah and Colorado, Ellis Skis is the brainchild of co-founders Kevin Schaefer and Sean O’Brien. Both lifelong students in the ski industry from design to manufacturing and sales, their vision has been refined on the skin track for over a decade. After two years of extensive prototyping, testing, and perfecting their skis, they are excited to introduce the brand to the public.
En route to launching Ellis Skis, Schaefer gained invaluable experience at industry leaders like Flylow, 4FRNT, DPS, Black Crows, and The North Face. O’Brien honed his creative skills working with brands like BCA, RMU, and Stio, and assisted with multiple ski films along the way. For over a decade, every role the founders took on was driven by the purpose of building and launching Ellis Skis. Rooted in passion, precision, and innovation, the goal is to make the most intuitive and purpose-driven skis for passionate skiers.
“Each ski is designed with a specific purpose and intention behind it,” Schaefer said, “so skiers can get the most out of any weekend on any terrain in the world.”
The Sabr 100 is an edgy, powerful, and lively model perfect for everything from groomers and corn bumps to steep, burly big mountain terrain. The Meraki 112 is the ultimate resort powder ski, offering excellent grip and confidence across a range of conditions. And the Yutori 122 is a playful powder ski that excels in the deepest snow in the world that sports a shorter turn radius and deep, progressive rocker lines.
One of the most important design features that separates Ellis Skis from competitors is their elliptical sidecut. This design features a shorter turn radius underfoot that blends to a longer turn radius in the tip and tail, resulting in a more dynamic and predictable ski in varying snow conditions.
Ellis Skis are adorned with an organic topsheet design known as Suminagashi, a Japanese art form that mirrors the fluid elegance of marble or stone. For Ellis, skis are a canvas for creative expression, blending ancient traditions with modern design to inspire not just performance, but a deeper connection to the artistry of skiing itself.
“Skiing is our passion, and we’re making purpose-driven skis that are intuitive for the rider,” O’Brien said. “We really want to connect with avid skiers who seek high-performance and reliability each time they go out, and who see skiing as a way of life and are eager to express themselves through skiing and their experiences in the mountains.”
