Record-breaker Noah Dines crests 3 million self-powered vertical feet and keeps climbing

October 24, 2024

October 24th, /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – At a time of year when only the most optimistic skiers have dusted off their boots and skis for the new season, Fischer athlete Noah Dines still hasn’t taken his off. On October 23, 2024, the Vermont-based skier set a new benchmark for the most self-powered vertical feet skied in a calendar year, cresting over the 3 million mark while skinning at Corralco Ski Resort on Volcano Lonquimay in Chile.

Dines’ new landmark comes only seven weeks after he broke Aaron Rice’s 2016 record of 2.5 million vertical feet. And while that achievement had the gloss of a new world record, this new one carries a special personal resonance for Dines. It’s the goal that he set for himself back in February 2023, and the one that he’s been aiming for since he started his pursuit in January, 2024.

“After months and months of working towards smaller goals, it’s overwhelming to reach this ultimate goal,” says Dines of hitting 3 Million vertical feet. “The Journey has been spectacular and I’m excited to keep going as I push the number higher over the next two months.”

Still, Dines shows no sign of stopping—or slowing down—after reaching his goal. His dedication, tenacity, and sheer love of skiing, said Fischer Skis US Marketing Coordinator Christian Eaton, are the very qualities that made him stand out when he approached the ski company in August of 2023.

“I hadn’t heard of Noah before this project,” explains Eaton. “He was just a kid from Stowe with a dream, but his enthusiasm and determination were palpable, so we took a shot with him. A pair of boots and a couple pairs of skis were all he was asking for. The tenacity with which Noah would chase this dream took us by surprise, and months into 2024 and benchmark after benchmark in the rearview mirror, it became clear that ‘quit’ was not in Noah’s vocabulary. We no longer wondered if he would achieve his goal of 3 million human powered feet but when.”

And Eaton Continues, “What we should be talking about is how after blowing past the previous world record, surpassing his advertised 3-million-ft. goal, and creeping up on his whispered 1-million-meter goal, Noah has continued to wake up every morning, go skiing, and still be excited to do so. This disregard for ‘good enough’ is what sets Noah apart and has made me so proud to have taken a chance on the kid with a dream.”

Not only has Fischer’s support been crucial to Dines’ success, Dines has also put his Fischer gear through a uniquely comprehensive, and relentless, test: he’s worn the same pair of Fischer Travers CS boots and carried the same One Way TR Carbon race poles since he started his project, and has put a rotation of Fischer Transalp RC skis through the wringer all year.

Dines intends to spend the next week in Chile before retracing his steps, first to Oregon to grab his truck, and then back to his home in Stowe, Vermont, where he will spend the remainder of the year. He expects to keep skiing right up to the end of the year. Perhaps most important of all, he’s still excited about it.
