“Namuli” Film Selected to Appear at Telluride Mountainfilm Festival
May 6, 2016
North Conway, NH. (May 6, 2016) — Namuli, the dynamic film that combines science, climbing and conservation, has been selected as a feature documentary at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The four-day, multi-dimensional celebration of cinema takes place May 27-30, 2016 in beautiful downtown Telluride, Colorado. Namuli will make its World Theatrical Premiere at the festival.
“It is an honor to be selected for Mountainfilm among such inspiring filmmakers and change makers,” said Majka Burhardt, Co-director of Namuli and founder of Legado, a global conservation and development initiative launched by the work featured in the film.
Namuli is a community-backed film that documents the spirit of exploration and what happens when a team of rock climbers, biologists and conservationists sets off on an unconventional expedition into one of the world’s least explored and most threatened habitats. The film follows an international crew as they push the bounds of friendship, climbing, and scientific research on the 2,000-foot granite face of Mozambique’s second highest mountain, Mount Namuli.
Namuli features expedition leader, Majka Burhardt, a professional climber, author, and social entrepreneur. The film also follows professional climber Kate Rutherford, Brazilian entomologist Flavia Esteves, South African entomologist Caswell Munyai, and Mozambican herpetologist Harith Farooq. Namuli is directed and produced by Majka Burhardt, Sarah Garlick, and Paul Yoo. Sarah Garlick and Kate Rutherford will be at Mountainfilm to share Namuli in person.
The Telluride Mountainfilm documentary film festival showcases nonfiction stories about environmental, cultural, climbing, political and social justice issues that matter. Along with exceptional documentaries, the festival goes beyond the film medium by bringing together world-class athletes, change makers and visionary artists. Learn more at mountainfilm.org.
