Granite Gear Debuts Crown2, The Next Step in Customizable Ultralight Backpacking

Following the wild success of the Vapor AC and the Crown VC 60, the new Crown2 continues to evolve Granite Gear’s successful line of ultralight multi-day backpacks.

Two Harbors, MN — May 26, 2016 — Five years after the release of the award-winning Granite Gear Crown VC 60, The Crown2, its new and improved successor, will offer thru-hikers the next level of ultralight comfort and adjustability.

The Crown2 boasts Granite Gear’s patent-pending, fully customizable RE-FIT hip belt, which was used in the recently released Lutsen series. RE-FIT technology allows for a fully customizable fit anywhere in the backcountry. The Crown2 also features a fixed torso length, which is available in 3 torso sizes.

Sr. Director of Design & Development Michael Meyer and Granite Gear co-founder Dan Cruikshank collaborated to unite the trail-tested features of the original Crown with key design changes that further improve user experience for this cult-classic collection.

“We received a lot of great feedback on the Crown over the past few years, which we boiled down to key revisions,” Meyer said. “By preserving the Vapor Trail collection’s essence and listening to our customers, we have created what is sure to be an even bigger fan favorite in the Crown2.”

The new Vapor-Current Mark 2 suspension system features a compression molded polypropylene frame sheet. This new system works in combination with the molded foam back panel, ventilation channels and durable laminated mesh to assist in airflow of heat and moisture, without shifting the pack’s center of gravity away from your back. The frame sheet can also be removed for further weight reduction.

Additional Features of the Crown2:

• Dual density shoulder harness with load-lifter straps and removable sternum strap
• Dual large hip belt pockets with DWR treated zippers to shelter gear from the elements
• Removable lid with compartment featuring DWR treated zipper
• Roll-top main compartment opening with centered dual strap and singular buckle for quick access and easy compression
• Hydration port and internal hydration sleeve
• Large side, stretch woven pockets
• 10mm webbing side and front compression straps
• Stretch mesh front pocket and tool loops
• Fabrics: 100d high-tenacity nylon with Barrier DWR
• 210d high-tenacity ripstop nylon with Barrier DWR

The Crown2 Short torso weighs 2 lbs., the Regular weighs 2 lbs. 2 oz., and the Long weighs 2 lbs. 4 oz.,all without the lids attached. The Short fits torso lengths of 15-18 inches, the Regular fits torso lengths of 18-21 inches, and the Long fits torso lengths of 21-24 inches. All three torso sizes have a volume of 60 liters and retail at $199.99.
