Apex Ski Boots Granted US Patent for Innovative Closure

Golden, CO.  –  November 12, 2018 – Apex Ski Boots, the only Two Part Open Chassis + Walkable Boot design in the US market, today announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted the brand a US Utility Patent. The confirmation comes as Apex has completed initial deliveries of all initial orders of their 2018/19 line to retailers.

While the lengthy patent descriptions cover several unique aspects of the Apex design, the primary focus defines the closure system used on the new Apex XP Antero walking boot. Rather than employing conventional crisscross routing of the boot’s Boa laces, the design’s external tongue is closed around the foot using the company’s Serpentine™ lacing pattern. This multiplies the mechanical advantage of the closure system and eliminates friction created when laces cross over the top of a tongue. Combined with two Boa Coiler dials mounted on the boot’s molded tongue, the range of foot types that can be accommodated and the power and security of the overall closure are all increased. The result, says the company, is the highest performance boot that Apex has ever delivered to the market.

Additional Apex models featuring Serpentine Lacing have been undergoing on-snow and lab testing, and are planned for introduction in the near future.
