Balega Launches Fall 2020 Limited Edition Hidden Comfort Sock to Benefit Lesedi Project
November 4, 2020
DURHAM, N.C. – Since its inception 17 years ago, community and helping those less fortunate has been a cornerstone of Balega International. This year, Balega is proud to launch a limited edition collection of Hidden Comfort socks to benefit the Lesedi Project, Balega’s non-profit organization and give-back initiative to strengthen South African and American communities. The new Limited Edition Lesedi Hidden Comfort line will be available in select run specialty retail stores starting in November.
“Community, giving back and serving those around us, is just as important to us at Balega as making quality socks,” said Tanya Pictor, Vice President of Marketing for Balega. “Through the Limited Edition Hidden Comfort collection and our Lesedi Project, we are able to make a meaningful difference today in the life of a disadvantaged child in South Africa by offering aid for their education.”
Lesedi, meaning “Light and Enlightenment,” is a project Balega spearheaded back in 2004 to give back to its community. Through the Lesedi Project, Balega has been a proud partner of the Ethembeni School, home to disabled and visually impaired children from predominantly rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Older Ethembeni school students are able to develop their cognitive and fine motor skills in a beadwork program that utilizes materials provided by Balega. Sales of these limited edition socks help make a difference in the lives of 12 students through Balega’s annual scholarship program.
These young learners, who face challenges many of us will never experience, are a constant reminder that anything is possible. Through the guidance of their teachers and leaders, the students learn that nothing is out of their reach, and with perseverance, consistency and a bit of patience, they will accomplish great things. Receiving only 30-percent of its funding from the government, the Ethembeni School is reliant on outside sources to maintain their unique teaching programs. Balega’s Lesedi Project aims to make a meaningful difference in the life of these disadvantaged children.
The Limited Edition Lesedi Hidden Comfort socks feature low-modulus elastane throughout for a structured but non-restrictive fit. Like all Balega socks, they have a hand-linked toe closure and a reinforced heel and toe. The mesh construction provides ventilation, and the plush under-sole cushioning gives extra protection. The heel tab helps prevent the sock from slipping into your shoe. The six new styles for Fall 2020 are Midgrey/White, Grey Heather/Bright Blue, Neon Lime/Bright Turquoise, Lavender/Midgrey, Wildberry/White and Electric Pink/Neon Lime.
Each of the six new limited edition Lesedi Hidden Comfort socks will be sold with a matching beaded bracelet made by the children of the Ethembeni School. The limited edition collection will be available in select retail stores starting November 1, and will retail for $15 MSRP.
