Boasting 50-Percent Faster Flow Rate, Platypus® Launches Big Zip™ EVO for Spring 2019

New taste-free hydration products & Chuckanut™ Hip Pack launch Platypus into 2019.

SEATTLE, Wash. – Platypus, the leader in taste-free hydration, introduces the latest evolution of its best-selling Big Zip Reservoir – the Big Zip™ EVO – for spring 2019. Delivering a 50-percent increase in flow than the previous Big Zip LP and new user-friendly features like a quick-access disconnect and pincher for one-handed filling, the Big Zip EVO is the ideal pick for hikers, backpackers, and mountain bikers alike. 

“We had two goals in mind when we looked at redesigning the Big Zip – faster flow and more user-friendly features,” said Karl Fritzsche, Platypus Product Manager. “We successfully accomplished both of these goals – and more – with the new Big Zip EVO, all while keeping our clean-taste guarantee by using food grade plastics. This is what Platypus is all about, the pure Platy experience.”  

Offered in four sizes – 1.5L, 2.0L, 2.0L (lumbar) and 3.0L – the Big Zip EVO is designed to work in all styles of packs and features a new high-mount drink tube with quick disconnect, making it faster and easier to load and unload. A semi-rigid baffled construction helps keep the reservoir open and ensures a quicker and easier dry. 

Taste-free, BPA-free, and phthalate-free, the reservoir incorporates embedded silver-ions which protect clean water from mold and bacteria. Additional features include: a new self-sealing HyFLO™ bite valve, leak proof shutoff valve, and larger 5/16” tubing – all attributing to a 50-percent faster flow rate. The Big Zip EVO is complemented by the new Hoser® Reservoir, the EVO’s ultralight, minimalist counterpart. 

In addition to the Big Zip EVO, Platypus introduces a new hip pack and refreshes its hydration pack line for mountain bikers and hikers. The new Chuckanut™ Hip Pack is a comfortable, low-profile way to carry riding essentials on quick outings. The new pack is comfortable and stable, allowing riders to focus on the trail without the pack riding up or bouncing around. Unlike most hip packs, the Chuckanut comes with a .5L taste-free SoftBottle™, easing on-the-go hydration. 

New for hydration packs, the XC Series, including the Tokul™ and B-Line™, will be offered in three new colors and a new 12-liter size. The AM Series will also be available in three new colors and a larger 15-liter size for the Siouxon™. All packs will come with the new Big Zip EVO 3.0L.
