World’s Largest Sporting Goods Retailer Expands Popular Lines, Launches New Initiatives with Innovative, Sustainable Gear for Everybody’s Outdoor Adventures
SAN FRANCISCO (March 15, 2021)— Innovation is at the heart of everything Decathlon, the world’s largest sporting goods retailer, does, and it was on full display last week when the company revealed its 2021 spring/summer collection for outdoor and mountain brands, Quechua and Forclaz, live from its mountain headquarters at the foot of Mont Blanc. In the 2021 spring/summer collection, the knowledge of the brands’ designers and the teams’ passion for the mountains shine through with a customer-oriented approach dedicated to the goal of making outdoor sports more convenient, affordable and accessible for everybody.
Featured Innovations Include:
- The EVOFIT Concept, pulling through new releases in men’s and women’s hiking boots, using innovative materials and design techniques, paired with a four-way stretch fabric, to make hiking shoes more comfortable for varying foot shapes and widths.
- The EASYFIT Concept, on display in hiking backpacks, with a patented system that simultaneously allows adjustments of the length of the back and tightness of the shoulder straps by pulling on a single strap on both sides of the pack. The backpack line is also updated with more eco considerations, such as more sustainable dying practices and repairable and replaceable components, in addition to Decathlon’s standard 10-year warranty on its hiking backpacks.
- The Merino Wool Collection: Decathlon’s backpacking brand, Forclaz, expanded its sustainable, responsibly-sourced and extremely wallet-friendly Merino Wool collection with eco-innovations including dye-free t-shirts and sleeping bag liners, a development that greatly reduces the environmental impact compared to dyed, nonorganic fabrics.
- AIR SECONDS technology and the brand’s award-winning 2 Second Tent innovation will see more size and material options, ensuring a quick-pitch, headache-free camping experience for everyone.
“Designing hiking and camping products isn’t just about applying new technologies,” said Jennifer Tetrick, director of communications and PR, Decathlon. “Our R&D teams work together through every stage of product development, studying body movement, testing components and industrial processes in the field and in the lab to ensure we’re making quality, innovative products at a price point that makes the outdoors accessible for everyone.”
