DeLorme Encourages Parents to Give the Best Gift of All This Holiday Season
December 2, 2015
New video showcases real fathers and daughters talking about their shared adventures and previous holiday gifts that inspired a passion for the outdoors
YARMOUTH, ME – (December 2, 2015) – DeLorme, maker of the award-winning inReach satellite communicator with GPS, launched a holiday campaign this week with a positive message aimed at parents, caregivers and loved ones: give your children the gift of adventure and change their lives forever.
The multi-faceted campaign includes a video entitled “The Best Gift of All,” which features real fathers and daughters telling stories about their adventures together and how they were inspired to explore the outdoors. Also featured are female adventurers who have broken boundaries and excelled in each of their chosen activities. A complementary 2016 calendar and 12-month social media campaign called “Women of Adventure,” showcases women adventurers of all walks of life and backgrounds, including photos with their outdoor mentors, who was often one of their parents. Outdoor activities represented in the calendar are wide-ranging from white water kayaking to flying. The video can be viewed here: inreachdelorme.com/adventure.
“Introducing children to new outdoor activities and places is one of the greatest gifts a parent can ever give. Outdoor adventures offer one of the best ways to teach integrity, self-esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills in ways that no other activity can. Plus, it creates a bond with the parent or mentor that every child yearns for,” said Bryan Martin, executive director of Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit organization that seeks to transform the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions.
“We believe that a meaningful experience in the outdoors has the ability to change a life. While Big City Mountaineers is making a huge difference for many kids, their greatest desire is to have these transformational life experiences with their mom, dad or close loved one. DeLorme’s message is so critical and we applaud them — and many other major outdoor brands — for coming alongside our organization in support of getting more kids outside,” Martin said.
Following the video, audiences are driven to a microsite with ideas and resources for parents and mentors to introduce children to the outdoors, as well as an opportunity to preview the Women of Adventure calendar and enter to win one, along with other prizes, such as an inReach satellite communicator.
“For forty years DeLorme has helped people discover and find their way in the great outdoors. Our customers repeatedly talk about their desire to share their experiences with the next generation. Our campaign highlights these stories with our real-life adventurers who have accomplished amazing things because of the encouragement from a parent or mentor,” said Kim Stiver, DeLorme’s vice president of marketing.
Knowing that adventurers – especially parents and children – want to stay connected and safe, the DeLorme inReach satellite communicator offers 100% global coverage with very affordable, contract-free plans and is rapidly becoming the indispensable, highly versatile tool outdoor enthusiasts, global travelers, boaters, hunters and recreational aviators don’t want to be without. The inReach Explorer model also helps reduce the number of people getting lost in the wilderness by integrating route planning, waypoint creation, and basic navigation, along with the ability to both send and receive text messages, 100% global coverage, GPS tracking and SOS alerting.
