New inhouse lab to lead industry in sustainable performance fabric innovation

LEAWOOD, Kan. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE – eVent Technology LLC, makers of high performing waterproof breathable textiles since 1999, has opened a new Asia Pacific regional headquarter in Shanghai, China. Strategically located in the heart of the technical fabric industry’s supply chain hub, the office houses eVent’s engineering, product and finance departments; sales and marketing team to service the burgeoning Asian commercial market; and the executive team under the leadership of company CEO David Liu.

eVent’s longtime Kansas City office will continue to serve as the center for operations for the U.S. and European markets under the helm of company president Chad Kelly.

“While eVent is a uniquely Western brand with deep roots and history throughout the U.S. and Europe, we identified the need to improve response time for customers and operate with more agility in the Asian marketplace,” Liu said. “Establishing an office in Shanghai allows us to progress on both of those strategies with a laser focus.”

eVent is long known for delivering highly air permeable fabrics that “breathe” better than competitive products through direct venting while offering complete waterproof and wind protection in outerwear for winter and outdoor activities.

The company is taking a leadership role in moving the industry away from PFAS “forever chemicals” common in standard PTFE-based performance fabrics with the introduction of eVent BIO and alpineST fabrics. eVent BIO is derived from renewable plant-based resources yet is tough, light and excels at moisture movement for extended dryness during a variety of activities. Currently customers are using BIO for weather protection in outerwear, gloves and footwear.

alpineST is the first three-layer expedition grade fabric made with planet-positive textiles that offers a high moisture transfer rating (MVTR) and complete wind- and waterproof protection. It’s the first sustainably derived fabrication that performs at the level of longstanding, high-end PTFE alternatives. The product is fully recyclable when it reaches the end of its life cycle.

A new lab in the Shanghai office will accelerate research and design of new, sustainable products and ensure improved response times to brand partners with immediate needs. Products in the lab will undergo a range of testing to deliver on eVent’s promise of world-best waterproofing for partner products.
