GCI Outdoor Partners with Westminster College and their Westminster Expedition Semester on the Road

GCI is the official furniture supplier for this one-of-a-kind mobile classroom

Higganum, CT  – GCI Outdoor, the creator of portable, durable outdoor recreation equipment and furniture, is partnering with the Westminster Expedition, one of the nation’s first semester-long, experiential-education programs to be offered at any college or university. GCI is providing students with chairs to keep comfortable and tables to help stay organized while they travel and camp across the West.

Offered by the Salt Lake City-based Westminster College, the Westminster Expedition blends the natural landscape, history and culture of the American West with a traditional curriculum. Fourteen students and two professors recently departed on a three-month, higher-education road trip that lets them earn college credits while physically immersing in studies like: Environmental Cooperation and Conflict, Landscape and Meaning, History of Public Lands and the Native West.

“Youth are the future. Helping provide the opportunity to learn more about the history of the American West and the public lands on which the outdoor industry relies is important to us,” said Jeffrey Polke, co-president of GCI Outdoor. “Our chairs and tables are compact and highly functional, which will be ideal for the Expedition. We’ll look forward to working with Westminster on future trips.”

The Westminster College Expedition takes a leadership role for our nation’s higher education institutions, and as the first program of its kind in our country, hopes to pave the way and serve as a resource to inspire other colleges and universities to create its own field-based programs.
