Granite Gear Announces “Triple Crown Art Pack Giveaway”
March 6, 2023
An ode to three iconic long trails on ultralight Undyed backpacks
Two Harbors, MN — March 6, 2023 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Granite Gear’s ultralight Crown Series is synonymous with thru-hiking and one of the most trusted packs on long trails, so this hiking season, the brand kicks it all off with their “Triple Crown Art Pack Giveaway.” The award-winning Crown3 60 introduces Granite Gear’s new Undyed colorway, which skips the color dying process on fabrics, hardware, and webbing, reducing the pack’s water waste during production by 55%. An added bonus with this Undyed colorway, is that the backpack has become a popular canvas for artists (check it out here, here, and here) using waterproof sharpies and acrylic paint.
A play on the “Triple Crown of Thru-Hiking” (hiking all three major U.S. long trails: the Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and Pacific Crest Trail), Granite Gear is giving away three Undyed Crown3 60 works of art that have each been inspired by each long trail. Winners will be selected on March 15, 2023 on Instagram. Bryn Merrell is the artist behind the Pacific Crest Trail Crown, which shows off the desert in Southern California and touches the Sierra in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Kerry Barnard is the artist for the Appalachian Trail Crown, which features the White Mountains, and state markers and trail highlights running along the sides and top of the pack. Rebecca Harnish took on the Continental Divide Trail Crown, inspired by the flora and fauna that make the CDT special.
“We are thrilled to see how artists have been using the Undyed Crown3 60 as a blank canvas. Having the ability to customize a backpack in this way and bring a creative twist to ‘wearing the trail’ is a huge value add to the eco-friendly version of our fan-favorite pack.” says Julie Bacon, Granite Gear’s Sales and Marketing Manager, “I think we’ll see a lot of thru-hikers bringing sharpies with them on the trail to have their trail family doodle or sign, or get creative ahead of their trip to more easily identify their pack outside of popular trail stops.”
The Crown3 60 weighs less than two and half pounds and has a standard carry capacity of 35lbs, and that can be increased to 43lbs with a unique add-on Aluminum stay or remove the frame sheet entirely to decrease the load carry to 25lbs, based entirely on the hiker’s needs. The customization options based on trail, gear requirements, and personal carry style is on full display with the pack.
The Crown3 60 boasts a revamped Vapor Current compression molded polyethylene frame sheet which has molded reinforcement channels and die-cut holes to minimize weight without sacrificing structural integrity. The uniqueness of the frame sheet design is the ability to increase carry capacity with the optional add-on of an aluminum stay that integrates seamlessly into the frame sheet. The U-shaped aluminum stay provides reinforcement to the suspension system for treks that require base weights north of 35lbs (sold separately). In further efforts to make carry as comfortable as possible on trail, the Crown3 60 debuts a fully removable dual sternum strap system to provide a secondary hug over the chest.
Available in Unisex Fit (Short, Regular and Long torso) and Women’s Fit (Short, Regular torso), the Crown3 60 weighs an average of 2.4lbs. The pack has a main volume of 60 liters. Now available in three colorways: Dunes/Black, Copper Oxide/Black, and Undyed. MSRP: $239.95.
