Kahtoola Launches MICROspikes® Ghost Footwear Traction for Fall 2025 Hiking and Trail Running Adventures
October 29, 2024
Ultralight, durable and packable to safely navigate snowy, mountainous terrain with efficiency
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Oct. 29, 2024) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Kahtoola, the market leader in flexible footwear traction designed to make people more capable in the outdoors, is excited to announce the launch of its newest traction innovation, the lightweight MICROspikes® Ghost available at retailers in fall 2025. Designed to safely navigate slick, snow-covered trails quietly and efficiently, MICROspikes Ghost offers an improved outdoor experience.
Chain-free, lighter, and more packable than Kahtoola’s legendary MICROspikes®, MICROspikes Ghost features new materials and construction designed over a multi-year testing period to create a smaller, ultralight (42% lighter) version of its predecessor.
“For years, we’ve dreamed of creating a lighter, more packable version of the original MICROspikes – one that provides the same reliable traction, but with significantly reduced weight and bulk,” notes Chris Bunch, Head of Research and Development for Kahtoola. “This vision set us on a multi-year journey that involved rethinking everything, from materials and construction to rigorous testing. For the past nine years, every Kahtoola team member has been instrumental in making this dream a reality.”
Built for fast packers, trail runners and thru-hikers, the high performance, durable MICROspikes Ghost offers chainless performance with minimal bulk and weight (pair size M: 9.6 oz) to maximize valuable pack space. MICROspikes Ghost features a hard-wearing, slim TPU matrix with 12 aggressive spikes per foot for optimal stability, and articulating rivets that move independently to efficiently shed snow. A hybrid elastomer harness features patented reinforced eyelets at key stress points with a raised heel tab that easily slides over running and hiking shoes.
“Since Kahtoola was founded nearly 26 years ago, we’ve always focused on creating lightweight, efficient solutions that enhance adventure and human potential without compromising safety or the overall experience,” said Danny Giovale, founder and owner of Kahtoola. “Every product we make is driven by our own passion for the outdoors and the desire to redefine what’s possible in backcountry travel.”
MICROspikes Ghost is available in unisex sizing XS-XL (US women’s size 6-11, US men’s size 6.5-14) and includes a packable tote sack. MSRP $99.95.
Starting in September 2025, every pair of Kahtoola’s stretch-on traction, including MICROspikes Ghost, will be backed by a new extended 4-year warranty program as part of the brand’s commitment to build long-lasting outdoor gear for increased sustainability. Annually, Kahtoola contributes 1% of its revenue to nonprofits focused on protecting the environment, strengthening outdoor communities and supporting indigenous cultures.
