La Sportiva Deepens Commitment to Sustainability with Fall 2019 Apparel and Ski Collections

(BOULDER, Colo.) – La Sportiva has long been committed to reducing its impact on the planet and encouraging its customers to do the same. In the fall 2019 lines of apparel and ski hard goods, significant steps have been taken to increase the use of recycled and natural materials. Following the announcement that the brand is joining 1% for the Planet for its apparel program, these new lines of product demonstrate that commitment in a tangible way.

“We have an obligation to the next generation to leave the planet better than we found it,” says Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “Although the footwear, apparel and ski hardware businesses are not always the cleanest, with our contribution to 1% for the Planet partners, and our steadily increasing use of recycled and natural raw materials in our apparel program, we are helping to push forward important changes. Our fall 2019 collections demonstrate that exceptional product can be made in a more sustainable way. We expect that our customers will appreciate the steps we’ve taken to date and push us to be even better in future years.”

In base layers, the men’s Tour L/S and women’s Dash L/S are lightweight base layers with flatlock seam technology and underarm gussets for freedom of movement. Constructed from 90% recycled polyester and utilizing Polygiene recycled silver anti-bacterial treatment for reduced washing requirements, the Tour L/S and Dash L/S are warm, comfortable base layers that will retail for $69.

The men’s Kover jacket and women’s Kobik hoody are lightweight midlayers that use a natural Kapok insulation with VapoVent construction to create warmth that’s breathable. The outer face fabrics are recycled, the DWR coating is PFC-free, and the Kapok insulation is harvested from the seed pod of the abundant Kapok tree. These Bluesign approved garments with retail for $169 and $199 respectively.

The men’s Meridian and women’s Misty are warm insulation layers that use Primaloft Silver Active Eco Insulation that is created using fibers obtained entirely from the recycling of plastic products. The face fabrics are also recycled and are treated with PFC-Free DWR coating. The full-zip jackets are warm enough to worn on their own and breathable enough to be worn underneath an outer shell. Both jackets will retail for $229.

On the hardgoods side, the Skorpius CR is a lightweight ski touring boot for backcountry skiers and entry-level skimo racers that uses Pebax® Rnew® bio-based material, a polymer obtained from castor oil plants in the shell and cuff. Additionally, carbon fiber is used to reinforce the cuff for stiffness. This 2-buckle boot will appeal to wide-range of skiers and retail for $799.

While not a focus of the brand’s sustainability efforts, the award winning series of Vapor Skis – the Vapor Float, Vapor Nano, and Vapor Svelte – will all be updated with a poplar wood stringer to increase durability and skiability` overall. Each ski still uses carbon nanotube construction for lightweight rigidity and will only gain 250g. The Vapor Float, Vapor Nano, and Vapor Svelte will retail for $1399, $1349, and $1299 respectively.
