Mountain Equipment Oreus Jacket awarded 2024 Outside Magazine Editor’s Choice Award

The innovative insulated jacket recognized for its warmth, breathability and packability
TORONTO (November 6, 2024) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ –Mountain Equipment Oreus jacket featuring the patented Aetherm™ Precision Insulation, a unique patented construction that pushes the limits of what is possible with insulation, has been recognized with a prestigious Outside Magazine Editor’s Choice award.
“It took years of dedicated development and rigorous testing to create our Aetherm. This prestigious award, along with the numerous other accolades the Oreus has received, is a testament to its groundbreaking innovation and exceptional performance,” said Bill Supple, North American Managing Director for Outdoor & Sports Company Inc. “The moment you put on the Oreus, you immediately feel it’s remarkable warmth and lightweight comfort. Its quick-drying capabilities and packability make it the perfect companion for any adventure, no matter the conditions.”
The result of five years of development, the innovative Aetherm insulation offers down-like performance with the durability and weather resistance of synthetic fill for a jacket that provides best-in-class warmth-to-weight ratio, loft and packability. The Mountain Equipment design team accomplished this by interlocking multiple strands of 100% recycled polyester within a reflective layer. The construction allows moisture to dissipate quickly due to its larger surface area while allowing air to pass through the interlocking fibers, ensuring a quick drying time and retaining warmth even when wet.
Another benefit of the insulation’s construction is no need for traditional stitch-through baffles, which in a down piece can cause cold spots due to migrating loose-fill insulation or wind penetrating through the stitch seams. The Oreus can also be packed and re-packed endlessly as the interlocking structure of the insulation minimizes bulk, but also ensures it does not lose its loft or performance.
Outside editors applauded the Oreus for its warmth, comfort, and breathability with lead tester Kelly Bastone noting, that the jacket checks the “boxes for warmth, ventilation, compressibility, and durability.” She went on to state, “If I could custom design a midlayer, this would be it.”
The Oreus was first unveiled at ISPO in Munich in November of 2023 where it received an ISPO Award for Outstanding Performance.
“Instead of waiting for other companies to develop new insulation technologies, Mountain Equipment has used its own experience to become one of the inventors,” said the ISPO Award Judges. “The jacket is exceptionally light, soft, warm and packable – perfect for many outdoor activities, from mountaineering to ski touring”.
The jacket can be worn as an outer layer, an extra warm mid-layer, or thrown over everything as a lightweight belay jacket, while the vest option adds even more versatility to a layering system. Combined with its low weight and pack size it’s perfect for any mountain activity from alpine climbing, ski touring, hiking and more.
The Oreus is available now at Mountain Equipment retailers worldwide as well as online at mountain-equipment.com. To learn more about the Oreus jacket and vest and its Aetherm Precision Insulation visit https://us.mountain-equipment.com/pages/oreus.
