All-new packs culminate seven-year development journey and return to ski-focused equipment
Richmond, Calif. /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ Mountain Hardwear, a leader in performance equipment and apparel for climbers, mountaineers, and athletes, has introduced the new snowsports-focused Snoskiwoski 40™ and Powabunga 32™packs. After nearly seven years of product development in conjunction with Mountain Hardwear athletes, the two packs are designed with ski mountaineering, backcountry and sidecountry skiing and snowboarding in mind.
“Mountain Hardwear has had a rich history of snowsports products, which will only be built upon with the addition of the Snoskiwoski 40 and Powabunga 32 packs,” said Charlie Ranahan, global product manager for equipment and accessories at Mountain Hardwear. “Our product design team has been meticulously developing these packs over the past few years as we strive to create the most innovative, functional and durable ski packs for technical ascents as well as sidecountry laps.”
Designed to take skiers into the backcountry or for long mountaineering endeavors, the Snoskiwoski 40 features easy access to the main compartment, either through the top skirt or the right-side large zip access. The pack allows for an A-frame or ambidextrous diagonal ski carry option with a modular bottom ski strap, reinforced dedicated A-frame ski loops, and an on-the-fly removable ski carry strap for diagonal carry without removing the pack. Splitboards can also be carried via the A-frame option.
The Snoskiwoski 40 is fully strippable, consisting of a removable CLPE foam framesheet that can be used as a seat pad; plus, a removable dual density hipbelt and helmet hammock.
The shell of the pack is made of recycled 210D ripstop fabric, and the pack’s base and front is 500D CORDURA fabric that provides lightweight, yet incredibly durable protection. Dual density shoulder straps include multiple lash points for a radio, hydration hose housing, and a removable sternum strap with whistle buckle. The pack weighs in at 2 pounds 8.7 ounces for a M/L and has an MSRP of $220.
In addition to the Snoskiwoski 40, Mountain Hardwear is also releasing the all-new Powabunga 32 pack. Featuring the same lightweight and durable 500D CORDURA fabric for the full shell, the Powabunga 32 is constructed with full back panel access allowing for easy in-out and packing functionality. The Powabunga 32 includes Mountain Hardwear’s Hoverbelt technology that adds side-to-side and up-down pivoting mobility, providing ergonomic suspension to handle heavy loads while moving with skiers’ and riders’ natural movement for perfect balance and comfort.
Organization and quick access are prioritized with the Powabunga 32. The main compartment is easy with a full pack panel opening and a tuckable front helmet hammock that allows the helmet to be stowed below the pack, giving unobstructed access to the large-zip front avy tool pocket. Furthermore, the hipbelt can be rotated providing back panel access while still attached to the wearer’s hips. Plus, dual large side zip pockets with expandable volume fits skins, extra gloves, water bottles and other essentials. The Powabunga 32 weighs 3 pounds 3.4 ounces in a M//L and has an MSRP of $200.
Together, the Snoskiwoski 40 and Powabunga 32 packs usher in the next chapter of Mountain Hardwear’s snowsports legacy. After years of product design, both packs blend the functionality and performance that skiers and riders require for their expeditions and daily laps.
