MSR® Impact Project Sets Goal to Raise Money for Safe Water on Giving Tuesday
November 16, 2018
SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle-based MSR’s new non-profit fund, the MSR Impact Project, will launch a #GivingTuesday fundraiser on November 27th to encourage people to donate to safe water projects on this global day of giving and generosity. In partnership with Hopeline Institute, the MSR Impact Project Giving Tuesday fundraiser aims to raise $5,000 on November 27th to bring safe water to 5,000 people in Ghana through critical safe-water technologies like the MSR Community Chlorine Maker.
Today, more than 5 million people drink water from unsafe sources in Ghana, according to UNICEF. As a result, approximately 4,000 children in Ghana die each year from illnesses related to consuming contaminated water, such as diarrhea.
“For the millions of people who drink water from contaminated sources in Ghana, improved access to safe drinking water is critical,” says Patrick Diller, MSR Global Health. “This Giving Tuesday, we hope the outdoor industry will join MSR and Hopeline to improve the lives of thousands of people in need.”
A trusted MSR Global Health partner, Hopeline has been conducting safe water projects in Ghana since 2007, providing microfinancing and entrepreneurial skills development to more than 14,000 program participants with its core focus on uplifting women. The Hopeline Projects Department will aid in helping to distribute the MSR Community Chlorine Makers to rural clinics in 10 regions of Ghana where the devices will be used for both treating water and hygiene.
Hopeline will also work with other NGOs to distribute Community Chlorine Makers for implementation in their water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in schools across Ghana.
On Giving Tuesday, this MSR Impact Project fundraiser has a goal to raise $5,000 for these efforts, kicking off a larger holiday season goal of raising a total of $20,000 by the end of the year. Launched in June of this year, the MSR Impact Project was created to accelerate access to safe drinking water and hygiene via global health projects with in-country partners.
