New Balances Introduces a New Slip-On Sneaker Inspired by Y2K Trail Shoes

New Balance is running with the success of its 9060 sneaker and mashing it up with an obscure trail shoe from the 2000s.

The New Balance 8040 is out now, pairing the 9060’s sole unit with a minimalist suede upper from a Y2K era trail shoe. With a look similar to archival outdoor models from Merrell or Oakley, the upper features a velcro strap rather than laces and can easily be slipped on and off. The debut colorway emphasizes the two distinct elements, as a tan upper with a black toe tip sits above an all-black sole unit. The liner is also rendered in black, while khaki “NB” logos appear on the strap and insole. FN
