Nocs Provisions Teams Up With BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin

Introducing the Birding Backpacking Kits Program for Inclusive Outdoor Exploration
ALPINE MEADOWS, Calif. – April 18, 2024 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Nocs Provisions, maker of adventure-ready outdoor optics and accessories, today announces their new birding backpack kits program with BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin. As long-time partners, they are introducing a new program to help those who have historically been excluded from access to nature and the great outdoors.
BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin was established in 2021 with a goal to create safe spaces for people of color in the outdoors through various birding activities and events. Their partnership with Nocs is ideal since their missions align perfectly; both strive to expand people’s access to nature and encourage everyone to explore the outdoors.
This initiative gained momentum when the club expressed a desire to cultivate love and appreciation for birds and birding among children and families across Wisconsin. Collaborating with Nocs, the club will be donating 20 “birding kit” backpacks to neighborhood centers and schools in Madison and Milwaukee.
“We want to bring the joy of birding to Madison and Milwaukee communities who are underrepresented in birding. These Birding Backpacks will have what an adult and child need to have a birding experience in a beautiful park near their home,” says Dr. Jeff Galligan, co-founder of the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin. “Our partnership with Nocs has provided our club with high quality and stylish optics so anyone can participate in our birding events. This backpack initiative allows us to expand even further.”
These kits will provide children and adults the opportunity to explore nature without the need for extensive travel. The goal is to bring the tools needed to these communities. By removing financial barriers, these kits ensure that anyone – regardless of their previous experience – has access to the necessary equipment to begin birdwatching.
“We at Nocs are proud of our long-time partnership with the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin. Our goal has always been to have products that allow people to explore the world in ways they haven’t experienced previously,” said Chris McKleroy, Nocs Founder and CEO. “This program marks an awesome start to expanding the birding community and giving tools to people who have historically been excluded from the outdoors.”
Each kit will include:
- 1 pair of Nocs binoculars for adults
- 1 pair of Nocs binoculars for kids
- 1 Sibley’s East Field Guide
- 1 Field Guide for Kids courtesy of Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance
- A Birding Backpack Guide, created by the club, which provides detailed information on parks near each center, travel time by car, bus, bike, or on foot to each park, as well as the birds that may be seen in each season.
