PACT Outdoors Launches PACT Lite Kit Alongside “Doo” Colorado Right Campaign

May 26, 2023

The PACT Lite Kit is the lightest, most environmentally-friendly way to bury your poop in the backcountry.

Crested Butte, Colo. (May 26, 2023)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – In 2021 PACT Outdoors launched the first all-in-one bathroom kit designed to set a new standard in ease and sustainability for backcountry bathroom practice. The PACT System uses fungal mycelium in PACT Tabs and a plant-based, compressed PACT Wipe to accelerate decomposition and reduction of pathogens in poop.

As participation in outdoor recreation has increased, popular trails, campsites and open spaces have seen a significant rise in mis-handled, above surface human waste. This has resulted in harmful pathogens like E. coli contaminating waterways, harming wildlife while creating public health concerns. Land managers are responding in some areas by reducing access to camping and backcountry permits, among other measures.

The PACT Lite Kit

The all-new PACT Lite Kit builds on PACT’s line-up of products designed to make backcountry bathroom practice easier and more sustainable for outdoor enthusiasts.

The PACT Lite Kit comes stocked with PACT Tabs which use a native, non-invasive species of fungal mycelium to break down waste in the ground up to 10x faster, while neutralizing harmful pathogens like E coli. PACT Wipes were designed with the environment in mind. They’re dehydrated and compressed and unfold into a 9” towel with a squirt of water. They’re plant-based and free of the additives found in toilet paper and conventional wet wipes and leave users feeling cleaner and at a fraction of the size and weight of other options.

The new PACT Lite Kit includes:

  • Ergonomic, aluminum shovel for digging a 6” hole.
  • Integrated storage compartments for PACT Wipes and Tabs inside the handle of the shovel made of 100% recycled PET plastic.
  • Resealable pouches of PACT Wipes and PACT Tabs.

“The goal was to make a backcountry poop kit that everyone from ultra-light backpackers and bikepackers to anglers and trail runners could justify having in their pack. To achieve that, we took the shovel design from our original PACT Kit and used it to store all of the supplies,” said Noah Schum, PACT Co-Founder. “The entire kit weighs 120 grams when stocked with a week of supplies or as much as a roll of toilet paper, and like all of our products, it is guaranteed for life.”

“Doo” Colorado Right Campaign

The “Doo” Colorado Right Campaign coincides with the PACT Lite launch and is an effort to provide solutions to the “poop problem” in PACT’s home state of Colorado by distributing over 3,500 PACT Lite Kits through visitors centers and trail organizations starting on Memorial Day Weekend.

The initiative is a partnership between PACT Outdoors, Gunnison Crested Butte’s Tourism and Prosperity Partnership (where PACT is headquartered) and the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO). The goal is to educate people about proper backcountry bathroom practice while equipping them with tools that support responsible recreation and a reduction in human waste.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be supporting sustainable recreation throughout the state,” said Jake Thomas, PACT Outdoors Co-Founder. “We believe that if you give people better tools, they’ll happily use them for the benefit of themselves and our public lands. The more we talk about responsible bathroom practice, the more comfortable and prepared people will be. Poop should never be a reason that we limit access to public lands and we intend to make it a thing of the past.”

The “Doo” Colorado Right initiative is a riff on the Colorado Tourism Office’s statewide Do Colorado Right campaign which encourages visitors and locals alike to behave responsibly in Colorado’s outdoors. Following proper bathroom etiquette when outdoors is one of the Care for Colorado Leave No Trace Principles.

The “Doo” Colorado Right website includes details on the program, an overview of the PACT Lite product and how to use it, as well as locations where outdoor enthusiasts can find a PACT Lite Kit this summer.

PACT Lite Kits are also available for purchase through pactoutdoors.com. They are accepting new retailers at hello@pactoutdoors.com.
