Rab unveil updated Pertex® Shield shell collection for Spring/Summer 2025

New styles deliver specialized protection for every mountain pursuit

March 12, 2025 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – British outdoor brand Rab (owned by Equip Outdoor Technologies Ltd.) revealed a comprehensive update to their popular Pertex® Shield shell collection. Drawing on more than four decades of experience managing the notorious British elements, the new Spring/Summer 2025 range features waterproof solutions across a variety of mountain activities – from ultralight mountain running and hiking to adventure biking and technical mountaineering.

Pertex® and Rab have collaborated for many years, making industry-leading products for outdoor pursuits. Pertex® Shield is a waterproof and windproof fabric that’s breathable, lightweight and packable. It is available in a 2, 2.5 and 3-layer construction, depending on the intensity of the activity and the ruggedness required.

The new Spring/Summer 2025 styles include:

Alpine & mountaineering

• Firewall Alpine Jacket: Engineered for alpine linkups and exposed ridge traverses, delivering uncompromised protection in harsh mountain environments. Featuring a 20D Pertex® Shield 3-layer construction.
• Firewall Mountain Jacket & Pants: Highly versatile 40D Pertex® Shield 3-layer waterproof designed for year-round hiking and mountaineering missions.

Hiking & all-mountain

• Firewall Jacket & Pants: Robust protection for demanding mountain hikes, constructed with hardwearing, comfortable 40D Pertex® Shield 3-layer construction.
• Downpour Mountain Jacket & Pants: Essential 2.5-layer 40D Pertex® Shield protection that balances lightweight comfort with reliable performance.
• Downpour Jacket & Pants: Versatile everyday waterproofs built with 2.5-layer 50D Pertex® Shield for reliable protection on everyday adventures.

Trail running

• Downpour Trail Light Jacket: The go-to shell for year-round mountain running with optimal breathability-to-protection ratio. Built with a 20D Pertex® Shield 2.5-layer construction.
• Phantom Jacket & Pants: Award-winning, featherlight waterproofs featuring a 7D Pertex® Shield 2.5-layer construction that have become essential items on any mountain runner’s kit list.

Adventure biking

• Cinder Phantom Jacket: The ultimate ultralight waterproof biking jacket, designed specifically for cyclists braving the elements, with a 7D Pertex® Shield 2.5-layer construction.

In line with Rab’s sustainability goals, the new Pertex® Shield collection is built without intentionally added PFAS and incorporates fully or partially recycled materials throughout. Each product includes a Material Facts table detailing the exact percentage of recycled content and PFAS status, as well as the country of origin and the percentage of renewable energy used in the production process. Rab continue to work closely with their ingredient partners to eliminate all intentional use of PFAS from their ranges by Autumn/Winter 2025 – not just from fabrics but from zips and trims as well.
