Royal Robbins Introduces Eco-Friendly Hemp Travel Socks
June 6, 2019
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 6, 2019) — Royal Robbins, the world’s leading sustainable travel apparel brand, today announced the launch of Hemp Travel Socks, a new product category specifically designed to meet the rigors of active travel through a highly sustainable material solution. Available in stores beginning February 2020, the Royal Robbins Hemp Travel Sock collection is the next evolution of travel solutions designed to help active travelers “Go Everywhere®.”
As a company, Royal Robbins’ commitment to the environment and social responsibility stems from the founder’s origins and extends to all aspects of the business today. The company grew out of a passion for building clothing that could stand up to the Robbins’ adventurous lifestyle while honoring and protecting the outdoor environment.
Hemp as a sustainable alternative with natural performance is rapidly growing in the consumer’s mindset and there is no better material for crafting a travel sock than hemp. Hemp yarns are inherently odor resistant, temperature regulating, moisture managing, hard wearing, and comfortable across a variety of climates. Hemp is the most sustainable textile crop the industry has ever encountered; it’s grown primarily with rain water, pesticide free, and its deep root systems promote soil health and prevent erosion.
“At Royal Robbins, we are known for active travel apparel that is versatile and functional with sustainability deeply rooted at its core. Our products enable travelers to go further and longer in seeking new experiences,” said Michael Millenacker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Robbins. “Innovation through hemp for the production of our new sock collection, with designs that are hyper focused on the needs of the active traveler, has created the world’s most sustainable and highest performing travel sock on the market.”
“A travel sock is for those days when your schedule is packed as tight as your bag, and your last thought on the pillow is ‘I can’t believe we left home this morning,’” said Joanne Steinbauer, Royal Robbins Director of Product and Merchandising. “A sock that can step off a plane, walk sun-soaked city blocks, check-in at the hotel, hike to a mountain overlook, and squeeze in a breezy harborside dinner, all in a day.”
The unisex collection of durable, long-wearing socks is designed to meet the rigors of travel with performance and style, and the styles and colorways complement the Royal Robbins apparel line for Spring 2020. The socks are made from a blend of 51-percent hemp, 40-percent recycled polyester, 5-percent Yak for added softness, and 4-percent spandex.
