Salomon Delivers Versatility in All-Mountain Frontside Collection for 2017-18
January 24, 2017
ANNECY, France (Jan. 24, 2017) — In an effort to help skiers take full advantage of everything the mountain has to offer, Salomon, a company with more than six decades of alpine ski equipment development experience, has created a collection of versatile, high-performance products that will tackle any type of terrain or snow condition found in-bounds. The 2017-18 All-Mountain Frontside collection is highlighted by the new XDR ski line, the new X MAX boot and the Driver + helmet which will maximize skiers playtime on the slopes.
The All-Mountain Frontside category is specifically about creating equipment with the versatility to enable skiers to meet the challenge of playing on any terrain while at the resort. To do so, the R&D team at Salomon’s Annecy Design Center (ADC) leaned on Salomon’s expertise in the use of innovative materials and technologies in skis, precise fit in boots and even borrowed concepts from the backcountry touring line to make this year’s equipment lighter than ever. From the combined wood/titanium core of the new XDR 84 Ti Skis to the Motion Shield System in the Driver+ helmet, this collection will amplify the skiing experience, no matter what level of skier we are.
XDR Ski Collection
The XDR 84 Ti ski (84mm waist) is the go-to frontside model designed to tackle a variety of conditions, whether the day requires carving up hardpack, blasting through crud or floating on fresh powder. The key to that versatility is the use of Salomon’s patented C/FX technology, which utilizes the all-natural flax material in combination with carbon to deliver superior dampening properties while still being strong and stable.
A progressive rockered tip sports superior dampening abilities for terrain adaptation and easy flotation in mixed and soft snow. On firm, fast groomers, the XDR’s wood core melds with titanium for maximum control when arcing turns. Salomon engineers optimized construction in the ski’s extremities, making it light, playful and easy to maneuver in any conditions the mountain throws your way.
“The intent of the XDR collection was to put the ‘all-mountain’ back in all-mountain. What we see in the all-mountain category on the market today are wider versions of on-piste skis, which work on hard groomed slopes but truly don’t allow you to explore the full resort,” says Scott Lumsden, Salomon product marketing manager, Alpine Skis & Bindings. “We took our patented C/FX technology to a new level to provide the power that you need for groomed slopes and the dampening needed when skiing in mixed snow. By having a true all-mountain ski, our goal is to amplify the sensations you get from skiing and let skiers have more fun on the mountain.”

X MAX Boot Line
The market-leading X MAX boot collection adds two new models in 2017/18 with the introduction of X MAX Race 120 and 130 (MSRP $725 and $850, respectively). The new X MAX Race boots provide the same elite on-piste performance, while adding a more race-like fit with a 96mm last.
Additionally, X MAX, the no. 1 selling 98mm boot for three years running, sees a materials update in 2017/18 with the addition of polyamide in the chassis of the boot. This polyamide/polyurethane combination increases the boot’s overall performance, making the new X MAX lighter, less affected by temperature variation, and 25-percent stiffer for improved responsiveness.
The new Salomon Driver+ Helmet features a number of integrated technologies that protect your brain, and are also high on the cool factor. Salomon’s patented EPS 4D molding solution protects your head more efficiently than other helmets by dispersing and absorbing oblique and vertical shocks. The Driver also features a Salomon-exclusive tool-free lens changing system. Since seeing is the most important part of the game, the Salomon Motion Shield System is a true over-the-glass (OTG) system that lets you keep your glasses on as you watch for the spaces, and not the places.
