Salomon To Uncover Next Stars of Ultra Running at Three Invitational Academies
January 5, 2017
Global trail running camps offer once-in-a-lifetime training opportunity, send top performers to Mont-Blanc 80km
ANNECY, France — Salomon, a leading four-season mountain sports brand, is hunting for the next generation of undiscovered trail running stars, and offering a once-in-a-lifetime training opportunity for trail runners around the world. The Annecy-based brand will invite more than 40 athletes to attend one of three global Salomon Ultra Running Academies in 2017, with the top participants earning travel and entry to the Mont-Blanc 80km in France in June.
Registration for all three academy events opened Jan. 4 and closes Feb. 5 at midnight CET. Six men and six women will be selected to attend one of three continental academies.
Academy coaching staff will include Greg Vollet, Salomon’s international sports marketing manager, and members of Salomon’s global trail running team.
“Above all, it’s about sharing the passion.” says Vollet. “Athletes like Max King bring a great deal of experience and a deep enthusiasm for sharing their tips of the trade with amateur athletes around the globe. At each academy, attendees will learn about how to manage their sport, both physically and mentally, from athletes who’ve been there and learned from experience—and have a great time doing so.”
The 2017 academy schedule opens in North America, March 21-26 in Moab, Utah. The week-long camp will culminate with the Behind the Rocks 50, where the top male and female academy athlete will earn an invitation to the Mont-Blank 80km, which takes place June 23.

“The Salomon Ultra Running Academy is going to be an incredible opportunity for the runners that get to attend. After working with young athletes at the Salomon Running Academy, I’m excited to work on this new project to bring the same incredible experience to ultra runners,” says Salomon athlete Max King. “This will be an incredible program that gives the runners a chance to run, train and learn with their trail running peers.”
