Sierra Designs Expands Sleeping Bag Line with Air Pillows & PFC-Free Materials for 2018

June 12, 2017 – Boulder, CO. – Sierra Designs proves its commitment to making outdoor adventures within reach of everyone with a robust and affordable line for Spring 2018 that includes new and updated sleeping bags and the introduction of air pillows. These products showcase Sierra Designs’ innovation in lightweight, comfortable design that doesn’t sacrifice style. In addition, all 2018 sleeping bags will feature PFC-free DriDown insulation and fabrics.

“We are so excited to offer PFC (perfluorinated carbon)-free materials as a standard feature in all 2018 sleeping bags,” says Casey Sumnicht, Equipment Product Manager with Sierra Designs. “When Sierra Designs found out about the serious health and environmental concerns connected to PFC-based water repellents, we took it seriously and worked closely with our factor partners to develop a safer alternative with nearly identical performance.”

Sierra Designs takes its original zipperless sleeping bag and changes the game once again with the new Cloud (pictured). The Cloud offers similar functionality to the award-winning Backcountry Bed in a lighter weight, more traditional mummy shape. The Cloud features 800 Fill DriDown with a 15d shell/liner and patented zipperless footvent. The oversized integrated comforter includes a unique shoulder pocket that gives it flexibility to move and expand while sealing out drafts. Available in 35° (1lb 7oz) and 20° (1lb 13oz) versions. An innovative addition to the traditional lightweight mummy category is the Nitro, which features 800 fill DriDown insulation, 15d shell/liner fabrics and generous sizing for added comfort. The Nitro’s 5” horizontal baffles and side wall baffles keep insulation from shifting so it retains heat longer, while the draft-dodger collar is specially contoured to prevent heat loss up top. The Nitro also features a patented zipperless footvent, ergonomic hood large enough to accommodate a pillow and anti-snag zippers. Offered in 35° (1lb 6oz), 20° (1lb 12oz) and 0° (2lb 8oz) versions. The Nitro will be available at select retailers Fall 2017. MSRP: $299.95/35°; $329.95/20°; $379.95/0°

Rounding out the new collection are the Animas Air Pillows and Gunnison BC Air Pillows. The Animas Air Pillow offers incredible comfort in an ultralight style. Small enough to pack anywhere, but large enough for a good night’s sleep, the Animas features a lightweight brushed stretch top and bottom fabric, and a siliconized finish underneath for traction. Animas weighs just 2oz. MSRP: $24.95. The Gunnison BC Air Pillow offers the perfect headrest for any sleeping bag, with a unique shape that’s optimized to fit into a headcup to prevent sliding while leaving room for the shoulders. The Gunnison BC features a lightweight stretch top and bottom with a brushed finish, and weighs just 3oz. MSRP: $29.95
