SMC® Announces New Kobah™ Series of Ice Axes For Fall 2018

Ferndale, WA (July 11, 2018) — Seattle Manufacturing Corporation (SMC) introduces new Kobah Ice axe series. Kobah is the Skagit natives word for Mt Baker, SMC’s favorite place for inspiration and equipment testing. 

For the new Kobah series, SMC upgraded their original patented head-isolation design, reducing added shock to the arm and minimizing cold conduction from handle to hand, without sacrificing durability and has also introduced a new Bonded Head on the Pro axes. All come with newly redesigned heads.

Kobah Series includes three new styles, all Made in the USA.

• Kobah Classic: High value with high function. Designed for newcomers and occasional users looking for great value and durability at a super price, Lightweight, comfortable, and durable – a great all-around axe. “B” rated. 
• Kobah Speed: Built for more experienced or backcountry users, this super lightweight axe features incredible durability with a long lasting Chromoly head. “B” rated. 
• Kobah Pro: is for serious climbers and those climbing on ice: those who need the best. The only semi-technical axe with interchangeable heads and a removable new “Giddy up” pinky Saddle, the lightweight Kobah Pro stands alone in this price category. “T” rated.

“SMC was the first to patent the idea of isolating the head from the shaft of the ice axes for more comfort, less shock, more warmth, and better feel. This came about when the shift came from wood handles to aluminum.
