SOLE Launches New Eco Sandals Made Sustainable in Every Aspect, Leading with the Jasper Eco Flip, Designed to be the World’s Most Eco-Friendly Sandal
May 7, 2019
Industry leader in supportive footwear, SOLETM, will spearhead its 2020 line with the Jasper Eco Flip inspired by ‘the world’s most eco friendly shoe’, the SOLE x UBB Jasper Wool Eco Chukka, successfully funded on Kickstarter in just 84 minutes.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Fresh off the overwhelming success of their Kickstarter campaign for the SOLE x UBB Jasper Wool Eco Chukka, ‘the world’s most eco-friendly shoe’, Canadian footwear company SOLE is launching the Jasper Eco Flip to headline their Spring Summer 2020 sandals at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Denver, June 18-20.
The Jasper Eco Flip earns SOLE’s ‘Eco’ label thanks to its use of sustainable materials in every component. It boasts a soft engineered-knit strap of natural, ethically-sourced merino wool and recycled PET made from repurposed plastic bottles. The carbon-negative ReCORKTM footbed is made from post-consumer recycled wine corks and treated with Polygiene® Stays Fresh Technology, a silver chloride made with 100% recycled silver that ensures a long, stink-free life. The rice rubber outsole offers traction and durability to match petroleum-based equivalents by using natural rubber from carbon-sequestering rubber plantations, and rice husks that would otherwise be burnt and discarded as waste from the rice industry. Each material has been carefully selected to maximize sustainability without compromising on comfort, performance or durability.
While the specifics of the different materials used are important, how they’re put together is equally central to the Jasper Eco Flip’s sustainable credentials. Each element of the sandal is custom knit or molded, eliminating material cut waste, so all materials entering the factory end up under your feet and out of the landfill. The SOLE Jasper Eco Flip MSRP is $85 USD/$99 CAD.
In addition to the Jasper Eco Flip, SOLE will be launching the Laguna Eco Flip and the Costa Eco Flip, both of which also make use of custom knit and molded components to avoid material waste in the manufacturing process.
The Laguna Eco Flip is a fresh take on SOLE’s best-selling Laguna Flip, now with even more sustainable material upgrades. The Laguna Eco Flip’s engineered-knit recycled PET strap is made from repurposed plastic bottles, its ReCORKTM footbed is made of post-consumer recycled wine corks, and its outsole is made with a durable, outsole-grade Bloom Foam which uses algae to offset petroleum requirements while cleaning harmful algae blooms from natural waterways. The SOLE Laguna Eco Flip MSRP is $75 USD/$89 CAD.
The Costa Eco Flip has had similar eco-friendly upgrades, and now boasts the same engineered-knit recycled PET strap, with a Bloom Foam midsole, and an outsole-grade Bloom Foam outsole. As with all SOLE products, the Costa Eco Flip and Laguna Eco Flip are also treated with Polygiene®, a silver chloride made with 100% recycled silver to ensure longevity.
The SOLE Costa Eco Flip MSRP is $65 USD/$75 CAD.
SOLE’s complete SS20 line will include carry-over styles from SS19, all of which boast sustainable midsoles of either ReCORK recycled cork or Bloom Foam. While sustainability is central to the line, every style maintains the essential qualities of any SOLE product: they’re incredibly comfortable and good for your feet.
All SS20 sandals include a wear-moldable built-in footbed in SOLE’s signature supportive shape, so you get industry-leading support that will customize to your individual feet over the course of a few wears. The deep heel cup and supportive arch are complemented by a metatarsal pad that promotes circulation and prevents pain and injury in the forefoot. Your feet aren’t flat, and your flips shouldn’t be either.
The straps are strategically anchored to comfortably keep the flips on your feet and avoid toe-clench that can quickly lead to fatigue.
About SOLE
SOLE is a Canadian footwear brand, founded in Vancouver in 2001. Our mission is to help people live active, pain-free lives while having the least possible impact on the planet. Our award-winning footbeds are the consumer’s choice for supportive insoles, reducing pain and fatigue in the feet of millions. Building on the success of our footbeds, we launched into footwear that is great for your feet and gentle on the earth. We strongly believe that we have a responsibility to consider the impact our actions have on the environment, which is why we’re blazing a trail for sustainability in footwear. From product design and development, to material sourcing and creation, we are committed to providing quality and comfort that doesn’t come at the cost of the planet. In 2008, we launched our cork recycling initiative ReCORK, which takes natural wine corks and turns them into a carbon-negative raw material that replaces petroleum-based foams and plastics in consumer products. We’ve recycled over 100 million corks to date, and we are just getting started.
