SynchroKnit Debuts at The Running Event
November 20, 2019
New Patent Pending Technology Provides Unrivaled Precision Fit for Runners
Sheboygan, WI. (November 20, 2019) – Wigwam Mills Inc., the family-owned maker of premium, made-in-the-USA socks since 1905, will debut its new SynchroKnit™ running sock collection at The Running Event tradeshow, December 3-5 in Austin, TX. SynchroKnit is a completely new technology in sock construction resulting inan unrivaled precision, non-slip fit for runners. The new knitting technology is significant in the world of sock fit and performance; important enough that the 114-year old company is launching it as a new brand called SynchroKnit™ powered by Wigwam. Attendees of The Running Event can check out the new technology at the SynchroKnit booth number 513, The Running Event Sock Bar and at the start and finish of the Indie 5K on the morning of Day 3.
“We launched SynchroKnit in the run category because runners, in particular, demand precision fit from their shoes,” says Tom Wheeler CEO of the brand and a lifelong runner. “Our engineer literally broke a knitting machine and reprogramed it to strategically eliminate stitches in various areas of the sock, so bulk is reduced in the ankle and arch or instep area.”
Up until now, all socks have been knit with an equal number of stiches from top to toe, using elastic fibers to adjust fit. That one-shape-fits-all approach to knitting socks does not provide optimal fit between your foot and a running shoe. Wheeler continues, “Typically, we hear our testers say they didn’t know there could be a better fit until they tried SynchroKnit. It hugs the details of your foot, cradles your arch and provides just the right amount of room in the toe box. Your feet are supported and more comfortable, for increased performance.”
“The concept is easier to describe by illustrating what’s not there,” says Product Manager Laura Ubbelohde-Korff. “We are challenging our customers to imagine what they don’t need in a sock. Less bulk means a more precise fit which leads to a better run. This is a real revolution and it will change how the next generation of socks are knit.”
“I am really loving SynchroKnit, especially the arch support,” said Jonnah Perkins, an accomplished trail runner, who has been testing the sock. “I raced in them for a muddy 11-mile trail race that had a lot of vertical gain and loss and they were great. The two main things that stand out to me are that they don’t slip into my shoe — something that other socks have done– and the arch support is AMAZING. It’s like a gentle hug on my foot and it keeps its shape even after I’ve been on my feet for hours.”
The SynchroKnit synthetic running sock collection is launching with five styles: the Catalyst UltraLight Low, the Surpass UltraLight Low and the Surpass Lightweight Low, Quarter and Mid Crew, ranging in price from $15 to $19 MSRP. They will be available online at SynchroKnit.com starting December 1st, 2019 and through specialty retailers including REI and MEC by mid-January 2020.
SynchroKnit technology will debut a Merino wool application at the January 2020 Outdoor Retailer show in Denver, CO for the Fall/Winter 2020 season. Several additional categories including Ski/Snowboard, Hike and Winter Running will be shown. SynchroKnit allows a skier to marry the boot even more closely to the foot for maximum control and precise feel when initiating a turn or holding an edge. Similarly, hikers who battle blisters because of sock slip and poorly fitting socks will appreciate the merits of this sock technology as well. Merino adds natural moisture management, temperature control and anti-microbial properties along with luxurious softness to the amazing fit achieved by SynchroKnit technology.
