Come and take the road less traveled and bike up the Mediterranean coastline in style with seasoned guides and local knowledge from October 2018
GUILFORD, Conn. – Thomson Bike Tours, the leading operator of premier cycling tours around the world for more than 15 years, announces its first-ever gravel bike trip along the Mediterranean coast from Barcelona to Girona from September 30th to October 6th. This seven-day ‘Barcelona to Girona by Gravel’ trip starts from one of the most culturally endowed cities in the world, and follows a stunningly beautiful off-road course up to Girona via a variety of gravel, trail, and pavement routes.
“Taking Thomson off-road and riding gravel is exciting. After all these years of riding the same roads, discovering the unpaved route is interesting and adventurous. We’re able to rediscover and explore familiar areas with a new perspective,” said Chris Tarlton, Thomson’s Global Marketing Director.
The gravel trip focuses on delivering an unforgettable experience through the best scenery and solace without the traffic that one would typically see while traveling between these two iconic European cities. With a daily cycling average of 39 miles and 4,000 feet of elevation change, the first-class journey will take riders through the off-the-beaten path roads where many pro cyclists live on the route to Girona.
The trip starts from Barcelona, where riders will explore the heights of Barcelona and Collserola National Park. On Day 2, riders will climb the iconic Monserrat mountain in Catalonia along the Llobregat gravel road. The trip continues north from Collserola National Park into Serralada de Marina. By Day 4, riders leave the coast behind, heading inland through the Montnegre National Park and down to the medieval town of Hostalric.
With four training days of dirt, pavement, and gravel under your tires, Day 5 is the Queen Stage with two big climbs taking the group to a stunning cliff-top hotel for the evening. The trip concludes on Day 6 with riders pedaling along El Carrilet and the gravel road through La Vall d’en Bas to the famous cycling city of Girona. By the trip’s end, riders will cover more than 230 miles and conquer 24,500 feet of elevation change.
The Barcelona to Girona by Gravel trip ($3,295 USD) runs from September 30th to October 6th. For more, please visit: https://www.thomsonbiketours.com/tbt-camps/barcelona-to-girona-gravel.
