Outdoor apparel and lifestyle company hires former Anthropologie marketing manager

PHILADELPHIA, PA (THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2017) — United By Blue (UBB), an outdoor apparel brand committed to cleaning up the earth’s waterways, is pleased to welcome Joanna Schnell as their new Director of Marketing and E-Commerce. Schnell will be managing all of UBB’s digital, catalog, and retail marketing to support core businesses and new brand initiatives as the Philadelphia-based company continues to scale.

“We’re excited to have Joanna join the United By Blue team,” says Mike Cangi, co-founder and Brand Director of UBB. “Adding someone with serious marketing and e-commerce apparel experience bolsters the team’s foundation as we navigate through a time of significant growth.”

Schnell comes to UBB after nearly a decade of working in the  digital marketing and e-commerce space. Most recently, Schnell held the role of Digital Marketing Manager at Anthropologie, where she spent six years growing the brand’s international web business and building a successful e-commerce marketing program through paid and organic efforts.

“I’m thrilled to be part of a growing brand with such an incredible environmental mission,” Schnell adds. “We have a solid marketing team in place, and I’m looking forward to continuing the success they’ve created and driving the business to the next level.”

Schnell joins a growing marketing team at UBB with Kara Solarz (Content Marketing Manager), Kelly Smith (Photographer & Social Media Manager), and recent hire Ethan Peck (PR Associate). Peck most recently handled the marketing and press relations for the Lokal Hotel, a high-design boutique hotel in Philadelphia.

Including Schnell and Peck, UBB has grown their team by six so far in 2017, including a significantly larger product team. The outdoor brand anticipates hiring an additional eight employees to support a move into their new flagship location (slated to open at the end of October). The expanded retail and cafe space, located on the corner of Philadelphia’s 2nd and Race Streets, will be nearly triple the size of the brand’s current flagship store.

For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from the earth’s oceans and waterways through company-organized cleanups. They’ve picked up over 1 million pounds of trash since the company’s founding in 2010, and they’re far from done.
