US Trail Running Conference announces Diversity Scholarship for Trail Race Directors and Community Organizers

September 8, 2021

Industry leading event takes action to help and support race directors and community organizers from underrepresented groups in the sport

Estes Park, CO – Active at Altitude, organizers of the US Trail Running Conference has announced an exciting new scholarship designed to bring more race directors and community organizers from underrepresented groups into the sport of trail running. This scholarship will provide complimentary passes for five trail race directors or community organizers for the 2021 US Trail Running Conference, as well as financial support to assist them with travel and accommodation costs for the Conference.

Groups that are currently underrepresented within the sport of trail running include, although are not limited to, black and indigenous peoples of color, women, adaptive and blind athletes, and race directors and community organizers from the LGBTQ communities.

Many persons from these groups face significant barriers when trying to create trail races within their communities. This scholarship has been specifically designed to assist race directors and community organizers in this position and to give them a launch pad and support network to enable them to start and develop successful event management and community businesses.

This scholarship is made possible by the generous support of US Trail Running Conference Race Director Days Presenting Sponsor UltraSignup. UltraSignup is the leading registration platform for trail races in North America and has already pledged to support a future that includes a more diverse community of trail runners.

“UltraSignup is committed to working with all members of this sport to ensure that this platform fully empowers our race directors to engage with the entire trail running community. We will continue to seek counsel and advice from thought leaders throughout the sport to help us in our ongoing development efforts,” said UltraSignup partner, David Callahan.

“I am thrilled to announce this new scholarship that will help bring new race directors and community organizers from groups that are currently underrepresented into our sport. There is no better time than now to give these fledgling leaders the assistance and support they deserve, and to empower them to turn their dreams into reality, along with an advocacy network of encouraging peers from within the sport,” comments Terry Chiplin, Owner of Active at Altitude, and Event Director for the US Trail Running Conference. “We look forward to the five chosen community leaders joining us in Fayetteville, AR, October 27-30, 2021, for a Conference that will help to move the sport towards achieving the diversity that reflects the natural beauty of our population.”

Trail race directors and community organizers from underrepresented groups are invited to submit their application for a place on this diversity scholarship by contacting US Trail Running Conference Event Director, Terry Chiplin, at terry@ustrailrunningconference.com.
