University of Mary Hardin-Baylor partners with Slackline Industries, promotes balance in student life

BELTON, Texas — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, a college known for producing some of the best exercise science researchers in the country, has partnered with Boulder-based Slackline Industries to incorporate the use of slacklines into its education programming for 2018.

“This is the first time I’ve heard of slacklining being introduced to an undergraduate-level class and we’re thrilled to be working with UMHB on this project,” said Frankie Najera, marketing director at Slackline Industries. “As a company of former or current professional slackliners, we know how beneficial slacklining can be in improving concentration and balance – something students always need.”

The new course, taught by Laura Williams, the author of Partner Workouts and founder of Girls Gone Sporty, will incorporate five slackline systems donated by Slackline Industries. Williams is a graduate of UMHB who has been in fitness management for over 14 years. She is also a freelance writer, having worked with popular publications such as Men’s Journal, LiveStrong and Bodybuilding.com.

“Students have a lot of stress in their lives, and it’s hard for them to take a break from their cell phones and social media feeds,” said Williams. “This class should help break that connection and allow them to reconnect with themselves and the world around them – to relieve some stress, even if just for a few minutes.”
