Poland Wins Shardana OCR World Team Championships in Sardinia

April 14, 2018: World OCR, OCR Europe and Shardana Events announced today Team Poland (OCR Polska) winners of the Shardana World Team Challenge today in Sardinia, Italy.

(April 14, 2018) World OCR, OCR Europe and Shardana Events announced today Team Poland (OCR Polska) winners of the Shardana World Team Challenge today in Sardinia, Italy.

Obstacle Course Race teams composed of two women and two men representing the Americas, Asia and Europe competed this morning under mild conditions at the inaugural Shardana World Team Challenge. Team Poland (DAVID Hajnos, MALGORZATA Daszkiewicz, MATTHEW Karczmarski, BLUEBERRY Szwarc) fought off Team Denmark (Danish Obstacle Course Racing, DOCRA) to win by 30 seconds and was crowned the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Team Champion, taking home their share of the €5,000.00 prize money.

Just 5 seconds separated third and fourth, with Team Slovakia (OCRA Slovakia) holding off Team USA (USAOCR) for third place. The top ten teams included, in order, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Sweden and Canada.

Teams France, Switzerland and the Philippines also competed over the 10 km course with 20 obstacles on beautiful Costa Smeralda overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.

“We were thrilled to see the high level of competition and sportsmanship in such a beautiful location,” said World OCR President, Ian Adamson. “The support of the OCR national federations and organisation by Shardana Events, Comune di Olbia and Fondazione di Sardegna made for a memorable event.”

“Seeing the camaraderie between nations and the intense racing in the mixed team format shows how far the sport has advanced over the past five years,” added OCR Europe president, Mr. Philip Maher.

The Shardana World Team Challenge was held at Pittulongu Beach, Olbia on the island of Sardinia in the western Mediterranean. Sardinia is famous as one of the blue zones, five regions of the world where people live much longer, healthier and happier lives than average.
