Boulder, CO (August 3, 2023)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Sea to Summit, the global manufacturer of adventure equipment, is proud to announce a partnership with Washington DC-based, City Kids Wilderness Project and Colorado-based, Big City Mountaineers. Throughout the month of August, for every purchase made on Sea to Summit’s website, one dry bag will be donated to the brand’s nonprofit partners.
City Kids Wilderness Project and Big City Mountaineers provide outdoor programming for youth and prioritize diversity and inclusivity. Sea to Summit shares these values and executes a similar mission to enable people to adventure outdoors. Sea to Summit is thrilled at the opportunity to provide dry bags to youth in these communities, and is hopeful that the gear will empower program participants to pursue exciting adventures.
“This is an important partnership for us,” states Margaux Maertens, Brand Marketing Manager at Sea to Summit North America. “We have been long time partners with City Kids and have just recently started our relationship with Big City Mountaineers – two incredible non-profits focused on empowering youth through the outdoors. The work that each of these organizations does is truly inspiring and we are excited to spread awareness of their mission and support for the youth within their programs.”
City Kids Wilderness Project is a DC-based nonprofit that provides outdoor programming for 6th-12th grade students, and was founded on the belief that providing enriching life experiences for DC children will enhance their lives, the lives of their families and the greater community. City Kids uses city, natural, and wilderness settings in DC and Jackson Hole, Wyoming (its home away from home) to achieve its mission to build resiliency, broaden horizons, and develop life skills for the 134 youth it serves. In addition to incredible outdoor adventures, the program also provides career exploration and job training for high school students, as well as community service opportunities and social justice workshops.
“Partnerships with companies like Sea to Summit provide City Kids with vital resources and gear that are essential to our programs, while symbolizing a shared commitment to empowering youth through the transformative power of nature,” shares Sarah Cryder, Executive Director of City Kids Wilderness Project. “Donations of gear such as dry bags, sleeping pads, and apparel allow us to equip participants with the essentials they need to get the most out of their outdoor adventures.”
Cryder continues, “beyond the tangible benefits, partnerships with companies like Sea to Summit reflect a deeper alignment of values and a recognition of the importance of investing in the next generation. Together, we strive for a shared vision of empowering youth from Washington D.C., and promoting equity in outdoor spaces. By working hand in hand, we demonstrate that the outdoors should be accessible to all, regardless of background or resources, and that the wonders of nature have the capacity to shape lives and create positive change.”
Big City Mountaineers was founded on the basis that everyone deserves to have an opportunity to discover the life–changing experience that nature offers. By providing free, fully outfitted, and professionally led backcountry trips, Big City Mountaineers is able to give young people the opportunity to connect with nature and develop their strengths, skills, and resilience. Big City Mountaineers is headquartered in Colorado, but engages youth in seven cities across the country, including Boston, Denver, Miami, Minneapolis, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Over the last 30 years, they have conducted nearly 800 expeditions, served over 10,000 youths, organized 5,000 volunteers, and provided nearly 42,000 nights under the stars for the youth we serve.
“Big City Mountaineers provides free and fully outfitted backcountry trips for youth from disinvested communities,” shares David Taus, Executive Director of Big City Mountaineers. “To do this, we depend heavily on the generosity of brand partners like Sea to Summit. Their support truly makes it possible for our participants to have a positive experience on trail. In-kind product donations such as dry bags will help us take groups out in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters and ensure that everyone stays warm, dry, and safe.”
The “Buy One, Give One” dry bag promotion will run from August 1-31, 2023 on www.seatosummit.com. For all media inquiries, please contact Sarah Dziadzio, sarah.dziadzio@purpleorangepr.com.

About City Kids Wilderness Project
City Kids Wilderness Project’s mission is to build resiliency, broaden horizons, cultivate community, and develop skills for success in DC youth through a long-term, cohort-based model that utilizes both the wilderness and urban environment to encourage growth. City Kids aims to inspire youth to use their personal power to shape the future of their own lives and change in the greater community. We serve DC youth (ages 11- 21) in D.C. and Jackson, WY through year-round, summer, weekend, school break, after-school, college access and career support, and alumni support programming. Since our 1996 inception, we have served over 500 DC youth. 78% of our current participants are eligible for free or reduced school lunch and 65% come from the most disinvested wards in DC. www.citykidsdc.org
BCM provides free, fully outfitted, and professionally led backpacking trips, paddling expeditions, and camps so youth from disinvested communities can access the mental, physical and spiritual benefits of being connected to nature. Research shows that experiences in nature reduce stress, improve physical health, advance education outcomes and build civic mindedness. Unfortunately, not every young person has the same opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and are unable to experience all the benefits of a connection to nature in an equitable way. BCM’s model removes material and social barriers to participation outdoors by acting as a hub between the outdoor industry, youth-serving community-based organizations, caring adult volunteers, and professional experiential educators.
