Deuter to host Hague pop up for conscious shopping on Black Friday
LONGMONT, Colorado – Taking care of the people who make your brand isn’t a new thing. For the second year running, Deuter, a heritage brand in the outdoor industry and leader in sustainable production, has been awarded the highest distinction for textile supply chain excellence by the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), which supports workers in realizing their rights to safe, dignified and fairly paid employment.
At Het Plein in The Hague, on Black Friday (the annual pinnacle of consumption), Deuter will team up with a handful of other Fair Wear brands to host a #PeopleFriendlyFashion pop-up shop dedicated to the people who manufacture their packs and apparel. These are people who aren’t always paid enough to send their children to school or to eat a nutritious meal. As consumers, we are connected to these people, and Deuter and FWF want to encourage everyone to foster fair and respectful connections with our fellow human beings through conscious decisions to treat manufacturing workers with dignity.
“The things we buy, from backpacks to footwear and apparel, are all the handiwork of real people just like us, who deserve to be treated with respect and fairly paid in a safe working environment,” said Deuter USA President, Bill Hartrampf. “Sadly that’s often not the case, and when consumers settle for less, whether on the basis of price or apathy, they are participating in a soul-crushing system of exploitation and abuse.”
The #PeopleFriendlyFashion event will take place November 28 and 29, from 1-6 p.m., at Het Plein, The Hague. Other Fair Wear brands taking part in the Het Plein pop up include Claudia Sträter, DAWN Denim, Expresso, Funktion Schnitt, Havep, Jack Wolfskin, Katharine Hamnett, King Louie, Kings of Indigo, Star Sock and Vaude.
The event will include designer interviews, upcycling workshops, virtual factory tours, a demonstration on how to dress for three months with 33 items of clothing and more. For a full program and additional information, visit the Fair Wear Foundation HERE.
All Deuter packs are backed by a no-questions-asked lifetime repair policy, The Deuter Promise, with the goal of keeping them out of the landfill and out in the mountains. With 121 years of pack building experience, Deuter has played a vital role in mountaineering history: Deuter backpacks have proved their worth under extreme conditions on numerous expeditions, from the first ascent of the north face of the Eiger by Anderl Heckmair in 1938, to the 8,000-meter peak climbs of Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner today. Among its numerous innovations, the Aircomfort system was the first ventilated tensioned mesh back system, the first bike-specific backpack and a complete women’s range – all details of the SL packs are engineered for the female anatomy. From backpacking to bike commuting, from alpinism to travel and including an entire child-carrying and family line, Deuter creates a better and more comfortable pack.
