Orange Mud signs 3 year sponsorship of Dirty Kanza gravel event
January 15, 2020
Orange Mud, an innovator in hydration packs for endurance athletes, has signed a 3 year sponsorship for the iconic Garmin Dirty Kanza gravel bike event. Orange Mud’s CEO, Josh Sprague, noted “We’re a huge fan of the Dirty Kanza! I first experienced the roads of Emporia in the early 2000 time frame when riding the Death Ride out of Madison, KS. This was a 90 mile event in July that utilized many of the same back country roads that the DK often does today. At the time, gravel was so new that gravel bikes were barely a thing, so most of us were on mountain bikes, cyclo-cross or steel road bikes. After a few years the DK started up, and I jumped in to ride the DK200 in its second year when there were maybe 200 or so of us. This year I’ve been “unlucky” enough to be drawn in the DKXL which is kind of frightening, but after the last 3 years of the DK200, I guess it’s time for an upgrade in bike testing. Long story short, I love the sport, Orange Mud loves the sport, we love this community, and are proud to be a sponsor of this amazing event on my home dirt. I’ll be using one of our hydration packs of course for it too!”
The Garmin Dirty Kanza is one of the premier gravel riding events in the world. It is a grass-roots event, organized and managed by folks who are passionate about cycling, and done so for the primary purpose of providing life-enriching cycling experiences for the event participants. The popularity of DK has grown too, from 34 participants in 2006, to over 3,400 registered riders in 2019. Aside from the race, the expo on Thursday and Friday beforehand is now a massive, gravel cycle focused, consumer event where you can learn all about gear/nutrition/bikes and more. About Orange Mud: Orange Mud was founded in 2012 by Josh Sprague after being driven to “Innovation through Frustration.” After years of Adventure Racing, Mountain Biking, Running and Triathlon, Josh needed a stable, comfortable, and functional pack that just wasn’t available on the market. Starting with a single bottle carrier prototype, and growing to now offer over 50 hydration packs and accessories, the mission of Orange Mud has remained the same. Create innovative products that work just as well for the elite runner as the person at the back of the pack who’s spending the most amount of time testing the true limits of themselves and their gear!
