January 27, 2020

Boulder Trail Runner Organizes 50-Mile Run for His 50th Birthday to Raise Money for Local Fund

Denver, Colo. – Colorado-based nonprofit Suffer Better today announced the first recipient of its new Do Good Grant program,  which supports endurance athletes carrying out innovative endurance projects with thoughtfully embedded philanthropic goals. Kunlong Von Cousin, a Colorado ultra distance runner, with a number of 100-mile races under his belt, has turned his 50th birthday party into a 50-mile community run benefitting the Untoppable Nina Hall Family Research Fund. The 40-odd participating runners will be treated to on-trail breakfast burritos, commemorative T-shirts, and encouraged to donate to the Unstoppable Nina Hall Fund.  The possibility of cake at the finish has also been raised.

Suffer Better’s Do Good Grant Program provides endurance athletes – ultra runners, mountain bikers, triathletes, through-hikers, and more – with funding to support innovative projects that unite Suffer Better’s two foundational pillars: Giving your all and giving back. Do Good Grants enable an endurance athlete to carry out an interesting/unique endurance activity or project that includes a meaningful, and well-integrated philanthropy component that is aligned with Suffer Better’s mission.  Do Good Grants are funded by generous individual donations,  as well as Suffer Better’s other programs, events and supportive partners.

Says Suffer Better’s Executive Director, Peter Downing, “Kunlong is a longtime Suffer Better supporter and so clearly exemplifies both hat we stand for and what our grants are designed to support.  He is humbly and unwaverlingy committed to accomplishing good things for the community and we are stoked to support his latest effort.  Our mission is built on that premise – athletes giving their all and giving back – and people like Kunlong help us realize that in meaningful ways. He’s proof that one individual can make a significant impact. We’ll be out there cheering the new 50-year old and his fellow runners along.”
