Performance Eyewear Company Introduces Four New Bio-Based Fishing Frames With Thirteen Blue Light-Filtering Lens Options
New Smyrna Beach, FL (June 13th, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Bajío, maker of blue-light filtering, sustainably-made, performance sunglasses that are built to save the world’s saltwater flats and estuaries, has added four new frames to its 2022 product line. The new styles combine state-of-the-art frame and lens technology, but also represent four individual stories that have helped shape Bajio’s culture and community.
Sunglasses are the heart of Bajío, who provides customers with lightweight, bio-based nylon frames featuring proprietary LAPIS™ lens technology. These new fishable, 8-base unisex frames combine performance features such as a full-wrap design, wide temples, and vented side shields that reduce glare off the water and overall light intrusion without fogging the lenses. Bajío’s new styles feature ergo-textured no-slip rubber nose pads and temples, top and bottom proprietary sun ledges for ultimate light-blocking performance, and internal flex hinges–all of which are built into various temple and frame sizes designed to fit every face shape comfortably.
Bajío’s new fishing frames include four full-wrap frames made from plants, so not only are they gentle on the planet, but they’re also stronger and lighter than plastic frames. Lightweight frames equate to all-day comfort – whether you’re out fishing or at the fiesta. For a fully-customizable eyewear experience, the new line also features thirteen lens options: seven lens colors made from lightweight polycarbonate and six made from glass. Both offer durable anti-scratch properties and oleophobic coatings, which make sunscreen and water easy to remove. Frames with glass lenses retail for $249, while frames with polycarbonate lenses retail for $199. Proprietary LAPIS prescription lenses are also available. Each lens is designed for specific light conditions and environments, and features exceptional clarity, the latest in lens technology, and provides a visual experience that is second to none.
“These are not your dad’s old fishing sunglasses,” says Al Perkinson, Founder of Bajio. “Our new styles combine Bajio’s frame technology with our state-of-the-art LAPIS lens tech for optimal protection on the water. The new frame styles have a full wrap for ultimate light-blocking performance, and offer the most protection possible from the sun. These styles are great for both those who need eye protection from the sun after years on the water, as well as those looking to significantly reduce blue light exposure.”
Carbon neutral from inception, Bajío’s sunglasses are made with sustainability at the forefront, and complement banner days on the flats and beyond. For more information on all Bajio lens options, click here.
New Frame Styles, What’s in a Name?
ROCA:
Sight-fishing requires laser focus on the slightest indication—that split-second opportunity when you’ll either set the hook or lament over the one that got away. With so much on the line, you need sunglasses that give you every available advantage. Something solid as a rock. Introducing Roca (rock in Spanish), named for the productive Roca Flat near Campeche, Mexico. These are a solid pair of performance shades indeed. Made with tough, bio-based nylon, this modern oversized frame protects eyes with complete coverage and vented side shields, reducing glare off the water and overall light intrusion without fogging up.
Named after a memorable flat we encountered on our Odyssey expedition through the Yucatan near Campeche, Piedra elicits images of red and black mangroves, casting to big rolling tarpon on the incoming and sneaking up on snook with the outgoing. Designed with a medium 8-base wrap and lightweight yet durable bio-based nylon frame, Piedra can perform all day long without weighing you down. Piedra’s wide temples block sidelights and provide sun protection so you can focus on the fish in front of you. No-slip rubber nose pads and temple tips keep shades in place, even in the heat of the moment. Named for Alejandro Vega Cruz, aka “Sandflea,” the grandfather of fly fishing on the Yucatan’s Isla Holbox, the large frame Vega can help you spot giant 200-pound tarpon rolling in by the hundreds all day without weighing you down thanks to the strong yet lightweight bio-based nylon frames. Offering a bold, squared, high coverage full wrap design with wide temples to block sidelight and protect eyes from the sun, Vega puts you in a veritable cocoon ready to laser focus on the task at hand. PALOMETA
In Mexico’s Ascension Bay, where schools of tailing permit come to play, the poised angler in the Palometa (Spanish for permit) is ready to slay—all day. Molded with our proprietary bio-based nylon offering an incredible strength to weight ratio, the lightweight Palometa offers serious comfort and extreme durability. A sized down version of our popular Bales Beach shades, the medium frame Palometa features a wrap-around style with built in side coverage for sun protection and light blocking.
