BioLite’s FirePit Awarded a Popular Science Best of What’s New Award
November 28, 2018
Brooklyn, NY, November 28, 2018 – BioLite, an innovator in off-grid energy solutions, is thrilled to receive a 2018 POPULAR SCIENCE Best of What’s New Award in the Recreation category.
“We’re thrilled to see our FirePit recognized as Popular Science’s Best of What’s New for 2018,” says BioLite CEO and co-founder, Jonathan Cedar. “The BioLite combustion engineering team spent the past 3 years working to re-invent one of the world’s oldest technologies, fire. Through our team’s first-principles based engineering approach, we’ve managed to eliminate more than 80-percent of smoke from a campfire.”
Each year, Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations and choose the top 100 winners across 10 categories. To win, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category.
“The Best of What’s New Awards allow us the chance to examine and honor the best innovations of the year,” says Popular Science Editor-in-Chief Joe Brown. “This collection shapes our future, helps us be more efficient, keeps us healthy and safe, and lets us have some fun along the way. From simple household items to massive space-exploration tools, we’re proud to bring you the Best of What’s New 2018.”
The FirePit all-but eliminates that irritating plume. A battery-powered, 3-inch fan on the outside of the 2.25-foot-long metal grill pushes pressurized air down three interior stainless-steel tubes and out 51 jets. The engineered airflow means that the logs (or charcoal, if you’re grilling) burn more efficiently, reducing smoke by about 80 percent. Control combustion speed and heat by adjusting the fan, which you can do with a button on the unit itself or via an app on a Bluetooth-connected phone.
