Black Diamond Equipment and The Boulder Field Announce Bouldering Competition Series
July 8, 2019
SALT LAKE CITY, July 9, 2019 – Black Diamond Equipment®, a global innovator in climbing, skiing, and mountain sports equipment, in partnership with The Boulder Field, LLC (“The Boulder Field”), owners and operators of one of the nation’s largest bouldering-only gyms based in Sacramento, CA, announce a new bouldering competition series, The Boulder Field Masters (“TBF Masters”). Black Diamond will be the keystone sponsor of the series.
“TBF Masters is precisely what we look for in our event sponsorships – a world-class venue, premier event organizers and participation by a full cross-section of athletes, from beginners to the best professionals in the world,” states Jan-Willem Driessen, vice-president of global marketing for Black Diamond Equipment. “We look forward to collaborating with The Boulder Field to introduce a new competition climbing format and inspire others to go climbing in future seasons to come.”
In 2019, TBF Masters, with cash prizes totaling $60,000, among the highest in bouldering competition history, will consist of the following events for up to 200 professional climbers each event:
- The Greatest Flasher – July 26-27 – the first ever true flash competition
- The Force Majeure – September 20-21 – a battle of pure power with a twist
- The Modern Climber – December 6-7 – an embrace of the new school comp style
In addition, up to 400 “citizen” competitors will compete on the first day of each event for gear and other prizes. The Citizens comps will include youth, junior, beginner, intermediate, advanced and masters categories. As with most events at The Boulder Field, food trucks, music, coffee, locally brewed kombucha and beer will complement the climbing. See www.theboulderfieldmasters.com for more information and online registration.
“We have been planning a competition series like the TBF Masters for several years,” comments Carlo Traversi, pro climber and president of The Boulder Field. “Designed by our head route setter, Dave Wetmore, and his team, this series is guaranteed to be fun, provide a structured, competitive format and offer an attractive cash purse.”
